that's all good news.

i remember looking for a second fan in both my M6 and M9, and not seeing one, so if you're into taking the top cover off for a photo, i'd love to see where that lives.

Aha! I see it now: one at the rear, one on the heat sink in the middle-ish.

also:
Vic is talking about skb v gator hard racks, and the diff in latch placement.

i've used both the M6 and M9 in a 3 space gator bag, with a kord dtr. the dtr is not very wide, not very deep, and doesn't seem to do much to impede potential air flow.

I think I should have returned my 2U and gotten a 3U with a 1U grill for better airflow. However, I am tempted to try my 2U gator again, though I suspect my repaired unit will arrived with some cautions against it. :(

Last thing I want to do is to get it shutting down again, so perhaps I should just rack my SWR 350 in the 2U and order a 3U rack bag. The wife may be a bit miffed. :D

The front panel damage was successfully repaired, which is great, but not a big deal to me.

The big news is this: they have made three significant changes to the unit besides the new slotted cover.

1. 2nd fan
2. new cooler power transformer
3. heat sink with more mass and more fins.

That's all I know so far. When I get it, there will be a document I will share. Missing my poor little dragon...:D

My M9 is off to Cali today for repair... interesting to see what they have to say about it. Could be heat related, but I would hope that 1 hour at minimal volume wouldn't cause a heat-related blow-up :)

I wonder if you know in what year yours was made? Mine was in 1st the run, i.e., the serial number is under 40. :cool:

Got the M9 connected. I was writing some charts for this weekend when it arrived. What a great distraction! I even have a 3U rackbag with spacer grill to carry it.

This thing sounds so so great. I am "in love" all over again. The moment I started playing it, it reminded me instantly of the the first time I played an M6. The M9 has that clear lovely low end and low mids like nothing else I have. Wow. Just Wow. I am so happy to have this thing back in time for a big weekend. Full report to follow.

I got a chance to play two gigs with the M9 yesterday. It didn't break a sweat. The first was at a "Bill Record's" show in Dallas. Typical freebee, but fun with a good crowd. The head worked flawlessly, driving my 410. Used the RW Jazz, as usual with that punky/psychelic/rockabilly trio. Fun!

I then hustled 3 hours to Bullard, TX, for a wedding reception outdoors under the stars at Pistol Creek Ranch. I was packing 610s and a Sadowsky 4-string. The M9 kicked serious behinder from atop two hay wagons late into the evening.

The head drove my 4 ohm 410 Epifani UL1 and an 8 ohm Epifani UL1 210 with ease—it was loud. The sound guy was very happy with my tone, which was really a nice surprise. At this gig I was the substitute bassist for BackSeat Molly (deeply great band), and the event reassured me about the ability of my M9 to handle 2.67 ohms without meltdown.

IMHO, the added fan, slotted cover, larger heatsink and new power transformer really help. Also, I would swear that the gain and volume knobs have a different taper. Could just be that I am using different instruments.

In any case, the folks at Mesa did a terrific job—they went above and beyond to correct the thermal issues, and even repaired damage incurred during shipping gratis. I am in awe.

I really love this head, and schlepping a little GB shuttle 6.0 as a backup is painless. :ninja:

yeah....i totally hear you on the UL stack.
when i had two 410's, it was decimating, and fully awesome!

i'm glad to hear mesa did you right.
but, i knew they would!

I purchased a Titan V-12 a few months ago and have been disapointed because of the natural distortion when pushing the amp which appears to be produced by its power-tube related design. So I'm thinking of swithcing to a pair of M9s instead. Can anyone tell me if the natural distortion is less on the M9? I much prefer a "clean" sound even when playing loud.

I hope to goodness you're wearing earplugs, or that you're playing massively huge stages. If you play with those volumes in any club, I guarantee you're not in the PA, which is a really bad thing IMHO.
