Played out with the M9/LDS nEarful 15-6 yesterday. Small local AmVets bar, about 80 people. I am really growing to love the compressor in this unit. I never intended on using it when I pulled the trigger, but the more I play with it the more I dig it. With moderate compression and the master at 11 o'clock the room was saturated with thick, even low end. Played most of the night with voice 2 and all else flat, used the graphic to boost around 150 for a few tunes. In spite of my compulsive gear flipping, the M9 and Walkabout seem to endure my fickle habits-same for my 15/6, WA 12 ans Wizzy cabs.

How would the Mesa M9 compare with the Carvin B2000 tonewise? I have a pair of fEarful-inspired 15/6/1 cabs which sound great with lots of power on tap. These two seem to be top contenders in the megawump division and offer a lot of nice features.
My M9 blew up the other day... volume cut out, followed by a loud POP, complete shutdown, and the wonderful alkaline smell. Same practice room that I've been using my M6 in for over a year now, and the first time I've used the M9 outside of my basement or the studio. Joy.
Not very. I'd have to look at the original sales receipt for original purchase, but I think it was bought last November.

This may have been asked already, but how do you know if your M9 already includes the upgrades? I bought mine brand new in December '09.

The only way to know for sure is to call Mesa with your serial number.
Date purchased doesn't necessarily mean it was built at/around that same time...

When calling Mesa, ask for Rick in the service dept. He can check on the age. However, I think the warranty starts at the original purchase, not the manufacture date. As always, I could be wrong.

Was it in a rack? Mine died about 3 weeks ago in a 2U rack bag, and my manual did not warn against this—though the newer manual does. The front and back vents were clear and the fan was working.
You have my sympathies. Just be sure to do a very very very good packing job when shipping (if you get an RA number). Mine arrived at Mesa with a bent front panel.

Vic and I both carry ours in the 2 space skb hard rack.
I've had mine in a three space gator bag as well though....

I use a three space Gator rack with a vent panel but I dont really think its necessary as the M9 vents from back to front. It doesn't ever seem to get hot but I haven't pushed it for long periods yet. My Big Block 750 was a furnace! It got very very hot but the Carbine seems way cooler.
Going from memory, I think so. I think there's more area above and below the amp in the racks vs the bags. Of course the gaps on the sides is defined by the rack ears vs the size of the amp, so that's pretty much gonna' be the same.Hi ChefDo you think the 2U SKB racks have better air flow than the gator 2U rack bags?
I also highly recommend SKB over Gator. They just seem to be made better, and the latches come off with the lids, which I like better than the latches being left on the rack to rattle and buzz around

I just got a call from Rich at Mesa. He said my M9 is finished and will be back to me within a week or so.
The front panel damage was successfully repaired, which is great, but not a big deal to me.
The big news is this: they have made three significant changes to the unit besides the new slotted cover.
1. 2nd fan
2. new cooler power transformer
3. heat sink with more mass and more fins.
That's all I know so far. When I get it, there will be a document I will share. Missing my poor little dragon...
