Mesa Subway D-350!

I can plug in a laptop, tablet or phone from the speaker out connection and into the AUX Input on the back of the D350 and play thru headphones while I PATIENTLY wait for my SW115 speaker

So I spoke with Musicians friend this morning to see if there were any updates on when my backordered 115 speaker would be in hoping it would be soon. Looks like April they told me:(
The ability to listen with headphones is nice but nothing like rumble! That seems like so far off but I know time flies. I got such a good price on black Friday for the package and really like the idea of new but..
Anyone else have a speaker ordered from Musicians friend with such a wait?

edit wrong dealer..

Hmm, Official Mesa Boogie Subway Series Club

They are available and in stock at many dealers currently.

That's why I wonder why Musicians friend tells me April before they get any in. I apparently missed the last one they told me they had in stock when I got the WD350. The price they gave me was less than they are going for used. Almost feel a little guilty about that but that's on them.
It does not help getting their daily email hoping its "your order is on its way"!

If you can swing it and need (or just really want) a cab now -- and if, as you say, the price you paid for the cab on-order is less than they're going for used -- you could leave the order in-place and pick up a cab elsewhere (new or used - your choice) to play through now.

If April comes and goes and you haven't gotten the order (or if you simply don't want to wait), you can cancel it -- you'll have had a cab to play through, meanwhile.

If the cab comes and you are happy with the single cab you've picked up, you can sell the literally new-in-box 115 at little-to-no loss -- I doubt you'd have much trouble. Or you can keep it and have a stack on-hand, if you think you might use it.

Might not make sense for you -- you know yourself and your situation better than I -- and I'm not trying to encourage reckless spending, but it's one possible approach.

EDIT: I missed this...

I could buy an adapter to 1/4" jack I know but the only speaker I could plug it into is a 60s Traynor 8ohm 2-15 cabinet that does sound great at low volume but with my electrical luck I figure it is just best to wait. And working on downsizing I don't really want to buy an adapter cord for a combination that would most likely be far from sonic perfection..

While I don't think they are the best long term solution, Neutrik makes adaptors you can use and I own and use them on occasions when I am stuck with this problem. If you go this route as a temporary workaround, only go with a genuine Neutrik branded adaptor...NA4LJX.

I wasn't sure if you had a cab to play through or not -- and I get not wanting to buy something you might not use much -- but less than for one of these might be a not-unreasonable investment (less than another cab, certainly) to let you play through your Markbass or Traynor cab for the next three months while you wait for the Subway 115.

You might find that you like it through the Traynor. Or you might find it handy if you ever play somewhere, with your amp, through a cab that requires a 1/4" input. (I prefer Speakons, particularly as the power creeps up, but I don't think 350 Watts at 4 Ohms/175 W @ 8 Ohms is too unreasonable with a 1/4" connection).

I like that idea.. how to convince the Mrs. might take me until April!

Exactly what I was just searching for! I think it will sound good thru the 12" MB cab.
Much appreciated MarkA!

No worries, though I only posted a link to the adapter that @Al Kraft suggested, in the post I quoted. There are also pre-made cables with a Neutrik Speakon connecter on one end and a 1/4" on the other, if you'd prefer one of those.

Either way, enjoy playing!

Guitar Center sells the Neutrik adapter. I bought two because I also have mix of old and later cabs. I just keep the adapters in th D350's gig bag pouch along with the headphone plug adapters.

I received a D-350 from Sweetwater today. The tone and power are way above my high expectations. How did Andy stuff all that in that little box?

I honestly think the D-350 will handle any gig I get. I play upright bass (mostly unamplified) and mostly 6 string electric basses. The B string through the D-350 and a pair of SW 115's is room shaking and clear as a bell.

@Chuck M Congratulations! This amp gets so much positive praise. Unfortunately the one I recently received from SW had so much hiss at mid-level input and master setting I had to send it back.

I tested this amp with my current setup (which is dead quiet) using the same pair of 2x10 8-ohm cabs. I tried adjusting all the amp settings as well as using the factory recommended settings all to to no avail.

Then doubting my troubleshooting skills, I tried just a single cab, then different bass' / 1/4 inch cables / outlets / etc. Same hiss. Also my shielded Fender P Bass had a distinctive "buzz" that I've never heard before with any other amp or set of cables... but the buzz didn't manifest with the my Active Fender J Bass connected.

Guess I just got the only bad one and I was sorry to see it go, because I thought it was going to be perfect...

Did you receive a replacement?

The Mesa amps are among the best-built in the business. There is no inherent buzz or hiss in them, in fact, my D-350 is one of the quietest amps, even cranked up with a cab, or with headphones, that I've ever owned. My older house still has 2-prong outlets, so everything gets plugged in with an AC adapter. Many other pieces of gear I've owned have had background noise with the house wiring, a little or a lot. Not the Mesas!

TWS, one of the other troubleshooting things you may not have done was take the bass, amp, and a cab combination to first, another room, and second, to another house or building, and try it there. I have had a noisy bass / amp combination (not with Mesa) in the past in my music room/office that I've hooked up or gigged elsewhere and it's quiet.

Any part of the electrical/RF environment in which a bass is hooked up to play can contribute noise, as well as any part of the total signal chain.

At any rate, please do try another one- don't give up on the D-350- it's terrific! If a second one is noisy, then you then assuredly know it's not the head.

Andy, while we are both in here this afternoon, I wanted to ask a sort of peripheral question. Does the company that Mesa buys the front panel knobs from make the same knob in either a white knob/black line combination, or some other higher-contrast variation? A lot of times, it's hard for me to see the settings in low stage light. (I could get some sort of lighting to set atop the head, or grab a flashlight, but a knob solution would be better.) No doubt some other Mesa owners might be wondering the same thing.

Interesting, I also have a buzz on my D350 with a passive bass, but not my active basses. Amp was replaced, but replacement is the same. Mesa received my first amp, but couldn't replicate the buzz. I still have the replacement amp as I only have active basses and these don't exhibit the problem. The amp is brilliant other than the buzz with passive basses. I think you are the only other person to report buzz here. I wondered if it was because I am in the UK and 230v/50hz mains, but I see you are in the US. Perhaps there was a faulty batch, but that seemed unrealistic given Mesa's quality control. Maybe more will come to light and Mesa will find the issue, but I can say I haven't used my D800 at a gig since I got the D350, its a brilliant amp for my needs

No, this is a custom knob that we have used for years. There are 2 versions, both black but with silver-gray or cream marker lines.

@agedhorse Haven't ordered a replacement yet...

@Michael Vee Totally agree with your assessment on Mesa which is why I was pretty surprised. The only variable in my troubleshooting mix was the Amp Head. All my existing configuration setup with same room in my house, 3 different amps, outlets, 3 cables, 3 basses, etc. didn't have this hiss issue. I could be wrong of course but I isolated it to a one-off squirrely amp.
