Mesa Subway D-350!

I dig!
The only reason I have a WD-800 is Sweetwater.
They had a deal of 36 months interest-free, which brought the price down to about $30 a month :)
Sometimes those deals won't include some products like Mesa but this time it did!
If it wasn't for that, I'd be sitting here with everybody else whining about not being able to afford Mesa gear :D

I still don't have any Mesa speakers. Hoping to hit another 36-month deal in the future :)

Watch Sweetwater or stores of your choice for deals ;)
That was a great opportunity for you there. I would do the same but there aren’t any Mesa dealers anywhere around here now.

I’m Canadian so no Sweetwater. Long and McQuade (Canada’s answer to GC) used to carry Mesa but apparently no longer do which really sucks cause if they still did I could do something similar to what you did.

As much as I like their amps I’d really like to get one of those Subway 2x12 or 2x15 cabs.

Where is that stuff made? I don't know.

You know, as a non owner I can’t answer that with certainty. I was assuming USA made but we all know that assumption is the mother of all FU’s

I found a picture of the Megellan 350 amp. On the back is says, Designed and Inspected (italics mine) in the USA.
The Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 says it's assembled at the Aguilar factory in NYC.

Genzler is made in Taiwan.
So they’re charging US-made prices but manufacturing overseas? Not kool! That just confirms my cynicism when it comes to most businesses. Eliminate local jobs but charge the same as if they were still doing the work. Great for profits, sucks for everyone else. If I am wrong about this feel free to correct me. I’m not trying to pick on any one company and I do quite like Genzler’s product line so I’m kind of saying this with some reluctance.

It especially sucks because I really do like their stuff but at over a grand (around $1,500 Canadian for an amp and 1x10 (albeit as nice as it is) and $2K’ish if I want 2 of those little cabs it’ll never happen. I’d be amazed if that super pricey 1x10” had more bottom than my old got-it-for-$100 115. Yes, I know that ultra-modern 110 will have much much better mids and top but tbh I don’t really care if the big bottom isn’t there.

I don’t believe any single speaker cab should be over $500 except maybe a 15” or 18”. I realize that there are R&D costs to recoup but still it seems a bit much. Yes, I know in Genzler’s case they have the mini array and Faital speaker that increases costs too so that probably justifies it being as high as it is because really the array are extra speakers and not just tweeters so maybe in this case it isn’t a fair comparison. It just seems like an awful lot for a 110 though.

I feel like in 10 years I’ll still have a nice reasonably modern amp but will still be playing through old affordable cabs (for these parts read old Yorkville's or Peaveys with 15” BW’s). In fact, I’d like to start buying up some good used BW’s just for future use and/or builds because cabs aren’t going to get any less expensive.

Why is it that nice cabs are so bloody expensive these days? The situation with amps imo has likely never been better with unbelievable value for the dollar but the some of the prices on cabs (particularly single speaker cabs) are outrageous. I wonder if amps these days are kind of priced at a lower margin just to get the buyers to get the cabs to “match” the amp. Once again I know there are R&D costs to recoup but at the end of the day it’s basically a very nicely designed plywood box with speakers and a crossover in it so one has to wonder how it can costs so much?

Genzler heads are mad in Taiwain and cabs in the US.

Quite a few of these companies don't build the cabs in house though. Mesa does. GK does. A lot of the others are made in Ohio/Kentucky area for some reason (proximity to eminence?). I'm guessing there is a cabinet maker that builds cabs to spec for several amp companies.

Friggin bass players... You guys are so cheap I have to shake my head. I never heard a guitarist bitch about the price of a Marshall, only talk about how good it sounds.

They cost what they cost. If you don't like it, there's a Behringer that stole someone's IP out there with your name on it.
Just came in to crap on the thread eh?:bored:

For the record, I’m not at all cheap. Just not making a fortune in a very crappy local economy so I don’t have an unlimited budget for gear.

Funny how you mention Behringer as an option but then immediately slide in a snarky remark about that too. So I guess if I can’t/won’t buy an overpriced overhyped cab but then I’m “cheap” but if I buy the affordable “solution” that YOU mentioned then I’m an arse for “stealing” IP. I just can’t win with you can I?:rollno: I guess I should just sell my gear and pack it in according to your high and mighty BS.

Would a guitarist pay almost as much for a single speaker cab as they would for a 4x12? Guitar 4x12’s are a dime a dozen around here and can be had for relative peanuts compared to good bass cabs. I have a slant 4x12 loaded with Vintage 30’s that I got brand new for $200 as part of a deal buying its matching amp. Good luck getting any decent single speaker bass cab brand new for $200 under any circumstances much less a 4 speaker one.

As for how “good” they sound, well being way too effing loud isn’t good under any circumstances which when a guitarist uses a 4x12 is almost every time. Ime a 4x12=volume war.

Most guitarists should be banned from using a 4x12 Marshall for that reason anyways lol.;)

Thank you for the info re the cabs. That does help explain things. Like I said earlier, I don’t wish to put undeserved criticism on anyone.:)

Apologies to the good folks at Genzler. Sorry guys!:(

No, dealers set the selling price.

Dealers are also expected to provide a level of customer service that's admittedly more comprehensive than many brands, this adds to the dealer's cost and thus their pricing model. It's just something that has been part of the company's philosophy for as long as I am aware of.
the reason I brought it up was the last time this got discussed I concluded Mesa in fact were setting prices out the door by dint of that being perfectly legal when done unilaterally ( Supreme Court, Colgate decision 1918 or thereabouts) see:
Are there any Mesa Amp dealers willing to negotiate price? includes anecdotes from ex dealer employees saying not allowed to discount Mesa.

Has this changed?

This simply is not true, though people on the internet can say anything they want, truth or not.
