Mesa Walkabout DI mod

Hi!
I'm thinking of mod my beloved Mesa Walkabout by put the DI BEFORE the master volume so I can adjust my stage volume without change the signal to FOH.
Anyone done this? How much will it affect the tone?
I'm choosing between doing this mod or buying a DI box for my pedalboard. But I suppose I will get some of the goodiness from the WA DI with this mod right?

I think you'd lose the greatness of the WA DI.
I used to just convey to our sound engineer that I was gonna turn up or down ONSTAGE & he could make any necessary adjustments for FOH sound himself.
It's such a sweet DI.. I put up with this inconvenience.
With the DI level control on the front of the amp you can do that yourself too. ;)

1) Why can't you compensate using the DI level on the front?

2) The tone of that sucker through the DI is so good I wouldn't mess with it.

3) Are you constantly tweeking stage volume or do you just adjust a couple times per show? Are you getting hassled by the sound guy?

Edit: I'm not trying to argue with you, although reading back through it I can see how it may seem that way. I am literally looking for clarification as to why you may be willing to take the gamble.

By removing one of the gain stages going to the DI, I suspect you'll change the tone of the DI, for the worse. I believe Mesa has stated this in the past
@MesaBoogie could probably give a better answer.

Thank you all for your replies.
I think it will be hard mid-set to try to compensate the FOH feed whatever adjustments you may be doing.
There's usually no problem during tour and with the tour sound engineer, but when playing festivals, with maybe no soundcheck, it can be difficult not hearing yourself and need to turn up:) Also when doing party band gigs and the volume/party mood increase for every set:)

BUT if it will gamble the tone too much, it will be the sound engineer's problem;)
