Mesa Walkabout extension cab?

Hello. I'll be ordering a Walkabout 12. It'll be the 8 ohm version. I'll be using it solo for practice and small gigs, and I can't imagine that the 4 ohm driver in there is going to make much of a practical difference. But I'll need an extension cab as well for the bigger stuff. Does it make any sense to deviate from the standard 112 scout ext. cab? Would the 15" be an inprovement? Maybe the 12 @ 8ohms, and the 15" @ 4ohms? Or how about pairing it with something different, like say a Berg AE112? Sadly I have no way to test any of these combinations. Any input appreciated.

GREAT AMP/combo's I LOVE mine. I got the 8ohm combo too.... I wondered at 1st if the 8 ohm version would be loud enough etc.. BUT it KICKS BIG time!!!

I pair mine WITH a Bergantino AE112 for louder gigs & IMO it's a GREAT pairing. The WA cab is a fairly 'vintage' sounding beast- & with it's passive radiator under It REALLY kicks out the bottom end... I find the AE112's 'modern-ness' a great match for it & have had nothing but great comments from all who've -err commented.

I HAVE tried it with a MARK BASS HR151STD(1x15" rear ported) & I must say the Berg AE112 sits FAR better with the WA scout combo IMO. I wasn't impressed with the MB115 & WA 12" combination. But the 2 12"s Berg & WA are great!!!!!!!

It's a beautiful mix those two cabs- the Mesa WA scout 12" & the AE112- & it gets seriouslu LOUD too. I'm glad I got the 8 ohm version now- even tho it CAN run at 2 ohms according to the many who commentd -re the WA threads- I s'pose I could run it @ 2 ohms if I ever felt the need.
BUT IME it's a damn LOUD 300w that li'l WA head!!! Puts the Ampeg 350w amp I had yrs ago completely to shame.

I would suggest getting an identical cab to pair it with.

If you go with another single driver cab, even a 1x15 of some sort, stick with an 8 ohm version, or else you'll have a big imbalance between the 2 cabs. If you were to choose a 2 speaker ext cab, like a 2x12, then you'd want a 4 ohm version, so all three speakers get the same juice. If you want THE BEST match, (scientifically), go with the Scout ext cab. 2 of the same always equals more than the sum of it's parts.

Here is my rig, its all 4 ohms, goes down to 2 ohms wen i use both.
Its pretty loud and fat with just the combo, add the extra cab and it get super nice, a lot fuller sounding and a lot louder.
I would recommend getting the 4 ohm version, it works great as a standalone and i and many other on this forum have been using it at 2 ohms for years without any issues!
Also i love the look of this stack its all cute and tiny but it kicks some serious arse!

I agree with what he says. Using the intended manufacturers extension cab makes for a huge difference. It duplicates the manufacturers intended tone characteristics and just sounds great.IME

Aha it's an old topic. I have one of these and it makes it's name alive: it walks... (because of the downfiring passive radiator).
