try cleaning the effects send and return jacks.
you can just put a patch cable between them as well, but, they're known to have/cause issues like that.

Chef,

Thanks! I'll try that tonight. I stick a cable into them and removed the cable just to make sure they got some action (dirty minds aside) but I did not clean them with TV/contact cleaner. I'll do that tonight as well as just stick a patch cable between them. I hope this is the problem and not the MOSFETS going bad or something.

Sweet...I've got something to look forward to tonight!

Super sweet on the black faces. I saw a pic last week and it is beautiful. I hope the FX loop patch works for me and I'll be back up and running. I'd love the black face edition...but a free Walkabout is good enough for me. I'll just have to save up for a black face M6 or M9!

Have they reduced the prices yet in the current financial climate? I bet you could count on one hand how many they've sold in the UK now that Ashdown's Little Giant is on the market for a stupendously low price. I've used mine for many gigs now and rehearsals; it is the quietest and lightest 1000 watt amp I've ever owned.

I was waiting for this thread to pop up again, so I could report the new Walkabouts for '09 not only have black faces, but also plastic knobs. Just thought you all should know. That is all.

If the Walkabout had 500W's at 4 ohms, it would be PERFECT. I love mine, but at loud gigs, my Walkabout 1x12 Scout, even with a 12" Extension cab sometimes just doesn't quite have the punch I need for those slammin dance sets. But for any of my restaurant gigs, and quiet jazz/blues patio gigs, it's just great. Love the tone!!

I don't need the size or weight of the M6 Carbine or the MPulse 600. Besides, the MPulse 600 did not have the same vibe or tone as the Walkabout.

So I simply wish for a Walkabout with a bit more power (500W @ 4ohms would be great!) Then, it would be perfect for my wants and needs.

concur!

I've sold my Scout-long story-but, for small form factor, I use it with an LDS 2x8 or 4x8; for bigger form factros I used it with AE410, 410UL, LDS 2x12+2x6, two LDS 2x8's, or Henry 8x8.

It's a great head, and sounds brilliant with most everything I've tried it with.

Yes, even with an 8 ohm head the Walkabout can produce some serious clean volume. I got good results with an 8 ohm Eden 4x10, better than that same cabinet with an Eden head for my tastes. It was fantastic with an 8 ohm 3 way cabinet that was a custom build using RCF 1x15, 1x10 and a horn. Louder than the 4 ohm Scout cabinet because of the bigger and more speaker effect.

I've been super pleased with the Walkabout into my 8 ohm GS212. I was playing a bar gig with 200+ people and it worked like a champ at only 9-10 o'clock. Barely on it was pumping tone! I'll grab a 4ohm cab 4x10 in the next few months but for now I'm pleased with my 8 ohm 2x12.

By the end of this year, I think I'll be in possession of a new shiny WalkAbout Scout 112. I have a gut feeling that it is THE amp for me. Can't wait to have enough money to travel to a decent bass shop in the UK (probably bassdirect.co.uk's shop) try out some amps, and then come away with one, hopefully, a WalkAbout one! Literally, the only slight niggle of a concern is the noisy fan issues that are mentioned. Other than that, I think I'm sold.

Time to save...

The only niggle I would have is the ridiculous price, I've used both the 12" and the 15" Walkabout Scout and yes they're good but £1599/£1699-$2543/$2606 is taking P****.
I would have quite happily owned a Walkabout Scout but I'm glad I didn't cough up that much, they're good but not that good.

Chef,

Right back to working like a champ! Put a small 6" patch cable in/out and it worked! I'm so happy it was an easy fix vs. having to immediately send it off to Mesa. I will eventually send it off when I have the time...but right now I'm gigging this thing, with a DI of course! :bassist:

Since that worked, I highly recommend a product called "De-oxit." I think its made by Caig? Not sure if that's right. It's the best contact cleaner I've found. Many Audiophiles use it for their Gucci/uber expensive power cord cord ends, Speaker terminals, binding posts etc. It really cleans things up nicely and leaves you with the best possible electrical connection.

Congrats on the quick, and inexpensive fix! I'd test the daylights out it before I took it too a gig however (if you have no backup. Thank God for your DI huh?)
