I also have the MXR BASS COMPRESSOR.

Going to pick up the M6 today. It has less eq on it but I'm running a sansamp with it. Should be a solid bass tone. I'm a gearhead, tone chasing fool lol. I got this

You won't lack for EQ without the SansAmp, and while I like the MXR compressor, I'd advise leaving both effects out of the loop. The M6 is gorgeous sounding on its own, IMHO.

+1...the M6 is definitely not short on voicing/tone shaping controls. While effects may add something you like to that mix, it's worthwhile getting a handle on what the basic head can do first - you might be as surprised as I was.

Tried one in a store a few years ago, and was very impressed.

Could even get some nice overdrive.

I totally agree! I have the SansAmp on my board "just in case", but I love the tone of my M6 and the SansAmp never comes on. Still a tool worth having, though. (I also keep a GK MB200 in my gig bag )

I got rid of my M6 and got a MPulse. There both sweet amps. Now that I had both amps, I like the MPulse a lil better. Works for what I'm doing.

I can't comment at all on the Mesa heads, but I use a pair of PH212's, and they're incredible. I power them with a Crest CA9 stereo power amp.
