The Celinder in Question was owned by Eubassix from Bass Chat..he had it on commission at the gallery...David may chime in here....i nearly bought it but the price was very high...£ 5000 if i recal....

There's quite a story lurking around on that bass, lol.

By the time it was sitting up in the Gallery at £5K ($7.5K) it was back in the possession of Chris Celinder himself.

I was seriously close to agreeing a trade deal direct with Chris for my red J Update plus some cash for the daphne blue Me'Shell one but then someone in Scandinavia appeared with something around £4K in cash & beat me to the punch

That really was a 'special' bass, nicest J I've ever played. . .

That was the greatest version of GFM I've ever heard. And the Celinder (had a guard in the vid I saw, IIRC) sounded better IMO than the Fenders I've heard her use. It was 70s spaced, too, I think...

It was a crime that clip was removed! MeShell absolutely destroyed that Celinder!

I hadn't really heard very much of her work until I stumbled into this thread and checked out several vids.

Wow! Very awesome music and playing.

What album would be recommended for more of her funkier stuff?

I saw her in concert about 3 years ago at the Detroit Institute of Arts and she played that Modulus. Oddly enough, she said she didn't like that bass and was only playing it because her Jazz was in the shop.

I was surprised to read this as I thought she loved her Modulus but I think I read that in an interview somewhere. You actually got to talk to her in person. She seems like a true artist in that she plays whatever inspires her at the moment but Jazz basses seem to be her most consistent go to bass.

I agree with others in that the Celinder sounds the best out of the clips I've seen.

Saw her last night in Amsterdam playing what I believe was a Danelectro Silvertone, 1 pickup.
Wasn't expecting that, but she sounded awesome, just like always. Great, great band too.

Damn, what a fantastic concert that was... I was there too, and I've never experienced something that soulful and intense. On the train home I still couldn't quite understand how you can play like this. She is truly a magical musician.

She also covered Lady Cab Driver by Prince. Totally turned the song on its head.

I know this is old, but I thought I'd share that it's a '63 Jazz with a '64 neck Meshell uses most. Has the same flats since she bought the bass and prefers an Ampeg SVT.

meshell has sold its celinder, too heavy maybe, the bass shop in london has sold celinder's meshell.

I know she's playing Reverends now... I had her signature model.. I t was good, but a bit too bite-y of a P sound for my taste. I like the Decision a lot more. I don;t really care what she plays... Me'shell is actually the reason I started playing bass. I saw the video for Wild Night and that was it.
