Last time I seen her.
She was using the above 60's Jazz bass.
With an old Agulair 400 watt power head. Aggie pre-amp;
Ampeg 8x10 classic cab.
Her strings were old flatwounds.
Tone was killer.

I worked with her earlier this year (i am a backline tech). She requested ampeg gear for both her and her Mark Kelly (her bassist).

me'shell used an ampeg 410 and an svt. she had a svt iv as her second choice. she played a vintage sunburst jazz w/ TI flats. she said she has flats on all of her basses. she also played a guild guitar into a fender deluxe, and she used a yamaha rs7000 sampler. i don't remember her pedals.

mark kelly used a vintage jazz w/ flats (which he said belongs to me'shell) and a surine 5 w/ TI flats. he ran into a svt and svt 810.

fwiw, this was a crazy good show! me'shell and the band were super chill and down to earth (sometimes techs are regarded as "the help"). Deantoni Parks is a montser on drums, and Keefus Ciancia did ridiculous things with his keys (a big digital synth, a moog prodigy, and a moog opus 3). check'em out if you can!

That was the greatest version of GFM I've ever heard. And the Celinder (had a guard in the vid I saw, IIRC) sounded better IMO than the Fenders I've heard her use. It was 70s spaced, too, I think. In any case, a fantastic sound. The "talent/tone is in the hands" comment never rang truer to me than when I found out she was back using Fender Jazzes.

I think it's all pretty much been covered in the above posts (and yes, that's David Dyson rocking the MTD). On Me'shell's first album she used the red Musicman and her two Fender Jazzes (she apparently only has one of those two now). She was a Gibson endorser for a brief period. I read that she didn't really like the Musicman that much and I think she pretty much abandoned it after the first album (don't quote me on this). She was using a Warwick Corvette during her Bitter tour and the Celinder for parts of her Cookie tour. The last three times I saw her (Comfort Woman, Jamia, The World Has Made Me... tours) she was using her old Fender Jazz.

It was a crime that clip was removed! MeShell absolutely destroyed that Celinder!:bassist:

Bump to this thread... I was listening to Plantation Lullabies, and the majority of that album seems to be her '63 Jazz. Then I heard this:


It's a fiver (low D and C#), does anyone know which bass she used on this track?
