Meshell....what's going on with this sound?

What do ya'll think is going with the sub-bass coming from her bass on this track? Am I just hearing low end EQ boosting, or something like a sub-extender pluggy like a Waves Maxxbass, Submarine, or some of that kinda biz(I use those sometimes mixing but not much--I'm not very deft with them so I tend to err on the side of less is more)? Does not sound like a typical octave down pedal or effect (which I feel I hear more distinctly elsewhere on this album). I don't think it's a synth FWIW.

See, on that one I don't hear that, but on other tracks on the album I do. But it certainly could be! After all, many of those sub-bass enhancer plug-ins, etc are doing just that - creating an octave down in a very subtle fashion. It's just especially subtle on this tune, but has such a nice weight to it.

Octave pedal, and a graphic EQ with 40 HZ all the way up. That's my guess.

I have achieved something similar using Waves Submarine on my bass tracks when mixing reggae/dub-esque stuff - pretty cool what it can add, but as I say I always use a super light touch (can be really easy to over-do it!).

This sounds like the DBX sub harmonic unit that Bill Laswell uses a lot.
