Just to enlighten you all on Metallica. Cliff was not Metallica's first bassist. Ron McGovney was. Cliff isn't and wasn't Metallica. Lars and James are the only original Metallica members. And James is not playing bass on the new album. What they are going to do is write all the music record everything except bass then get a new bassist. And also James is not playing bass in the studio right now. Go into the metclub section of their site and find out who is. Also, what's wrong with lars? I don't understand.

Skywalker, althoughRon Mcgovney and Dave Mustaine were in the original line up, but except for a few demos they never recorded anything that was published on a Metallica album.
so, Cliff is the first REAL bassist meatllica had.

now, as for Lars, I think he suggested that the new album be called "Sue 'Em All".

Except I am pretty sure that Ron Mcgovney was the bassist on NO Life til Leather. And without that Jon zazula wouldn't have ever brought them to new york to do Kill em All. And Ron started Anesthesia which is Cliff's most well known solo. and Lars is just sticking up for what he believes.

yeah, i don't agree with the Lars-bashing thing ... the man is a terrific drummer. didn't he actually win some award for "best off-beat drummer" ? thought it'd take a fair amount of skill to nab that, seeing as how many mad drummers there are.
sure he's a snivelling little weasel of a fan-suer, but hey, drummers are frustrated little guys who you can't eve see during a gig.
especially Lars. heh, short arse :p

I don't agree at all with the "Cliff was mettalica. End of story".
IMO, that's totally wrong.
The real spirit of Metallica is James Hetfield.
He's the big boss, the main composer, he writes the lyrics etc ...
Lars is the big mouth. He has influence on Hetfield but would have none nothing without him.
Cliff was important and I loved the guy and his playing but don't be too bass-focused on this group.
Kirk, well ... hum ... nice soli ! :D
I think Hetfield could have bear the whole Met thing alone.
Look at the videos, look at the credits ...
Word is that Ulrich is often/always credited because of arrangment/producing and because he's a big mouth.
I'm not sure he really deserves it.
Though I agree, he's a terrific drummer, IMO.
Of course, it's my opinion and I can be wrong and so on ...
Of course, I totally understand that some people don't like their music anymore. They've changed (evolved ?) ... me too ... we're in phase ... good for me ;)
But the continuous easy bashing on bass, drums or "it was better before" about Metallica is getting boring.
I'm pretty sure that if they haven't gone mainstream but stayed in the underground scene, a lot less people would bash them.
It's so cool to spit on the big bands and just listen to underground bands, isn't it ?
Smells like teen spirit to me ...

Well, metallica's most popular song out there(the one everyone knows) Kirk did. That's right, Enter Sandman is Kirk's thing. I don't know if he wrote the whole thing but without him there wouldn't be that song.

You are right. Kirk has his moments (plus, for what I've seen on videos, he seems like a nice guy I would like to hang with). But if you had to do some stats on the credits,you won't see Kirk appears that often.
And Sandman is a good song, but not, IMO, a great song from Metallica.
I really think Hetfield would have done almost the same good music alone.
And not to forget producer Bob Rock for their success since the black album.

Guys like Cliff and Steve Harris from Iron Maiden made me pick up a bass in the first place. I miss Cliff in Metallica. I used wave lab to bring out his lines and burned the CD's over. I agree with dancehallclasher about Lars too.

i didn't say anything about his drumming skills. he's a fine drummer, and i'm sure he did win a beatoff contest or whatever. but he's a self-righteous whiny millionaire bitch.

Hey, I was pissed off about the whole "metallica-Napster" thing too, In fact, I posted a few threads about it here, but the fact is, Metallica is a BAND, not an individual. Saying that Cliff, or James, or Lars Or who the hell ever, is Metallica is about as ******** as saying that Ozzy was Black Sabbath,
or that Robert Plant WAS Led Zeppelin.
Furthermore, whatever their choices and opinions concerning what is done with their music is nobody's business but theirs and whoever is ripping them off. John Turner was right when he said that a professional band is out there to SELL albums,
not give them away.
Metallica is one hell of a band, and they are doing exactly what they have always said they will do,
and have always done, WHATEVER THEY WANT.
They have always said that they would play the music they want to play, and if you don't like it, Don't listen.

I won't, and don't listen to metallica. i used napster to download 100% non-metallica music. that's none of their business, but they helped get it shut down anyway. why, pray tell, should i get over that?

i can't imagine that many people were downloading their music anyway :rolleyes:
