Metal bass, I really don't understand the fun.

This is just as ignorant when people listen to a couple of gangasta rap songs and think all of rap sucks. I don't listen to country music but I'm not going to take a dump on the whole genre. As a result I ended up liking a couple of country songs and can appreciate any good musician when they're skilled.

BTW Listen to Joe Lester or Evan Brewer. Do some research.

Country would be cool if they removed the vocals. Total recycled cliche BS.

Work on your stage presence. Can you play these "easy mindless lines" thrash around and headbang at the same time? Try and get the crowd pumped or something.
If so, and your bored... Then quit.

If you hang around long enough to be involved in the writing process you can have your way or be more involved in the musical element. :D

Seriously if you don't enjoy the music and are standing there looking bored nobody watching is really going to enjoy it.
That's one thing that sucks about technical metal. They all stand there and stare at their instruments. The ability to do such things is awesome but can be dull to watch sometimes.

I agree with bee. I think it takes a degree of humility to play what makes the song as a whole(a supporting role) sound good instead of playing a lead role. I also think there should be a time and place in any genre for both.

first off, if you arent having fun you can stop playing metal
second, metal has loads of jazz and funk influences.

im a metal musician, but i was never into metal until my buddy asked me to play some bass tracks for him. i too thought it was boring. but thats the particular player. metal is a very diverse genre and accepts influences from everywhere. theres plenty of room to do your thing. you dont have to play what the guitar is playing.
