Metal bassists that play a Precision?

In my opinion, the P-bass just won't cut it for metal. J-basses just have that fat tone which gives the extra oomph necessary. I think that for metal, the best bass is warwick. It just has a powerful tone, which can cut through the mix.
And, although I haven't played a lot of Fenders, but those I have... Well I play in a metal band and they simply won't work. They're okay, but they don't have the edge, what Warwicks or Spectors have.

Duuudes. Martin Mendez is usually a Jazz Bass guy, but IIRC he has a P in his collection.

Jason Newsted played one during recording, and used to live back in Flotsam & Jetsam. He also currently has a few Sadowsky P/J's.

Whoa... not positive but I think that's my friend Rowan in this Dio pic, jamming in the studio in the early '90s. He was the 17 year old guitar prodigy who only played on one Dio album... still pretty cool.

EDIT: not trying to suggest it's someone other than who you all said it is, I think Rowan would be the one playing guitar here. thought i should clarify

Yup, that's Rowan... you should check out the second link he posted, it has alot of good footage of that band in the studio for the Lock up the Wolves album with Rowan. That was always one of my favorite Dio albums...

David J. Yes he used a fretless Precision in Bauhaus but I wouldn't say their music is metal.

The bassist in Queens of the Stone Age plays a precision also, but still I don't think that's metal either.

First we have to agree on the term "Metal"... one man's metal is another mans AOR... do we limit it to the last five years or only bands that are currently active? do we include heavy metal from the 60's and 70's? NWOBHM? Does stuff by Green Day or Linkin Park count as metal?

The Gossip? What I saw of them on saturday night on BBC Three put them into the metal class. Great Drum and Bass there with fantastic vocals over the top... mind you, she needs to keep her clothes on...

Yup. Chi Cheng uses a '57 P-Bass reissue and a '57 Jazz bass reissue.

Also the guy from Arch Enemy, um, what was his name, Sharlee D'Angelo uses a P-Bass in their video, Nemesis(not sure but i think it is a P-bass).

Martin Mendez is fantastic, and yes, he is all about the Jazz Bass. I play in a metal band as well, and I primarily use my deluxe P. I must admit though, the Jazz pickup in it rounds the tone out perfectly.

Oh and also the guy from deftones uses (or has used) a P live (mind you I'm not familiar enough with them to call them metal... are they? It's just that the songs I've heard by them are heavy).

Kyuss are definately metal though (the band before Queens of the Stone Age) so I'd count Nick Oliveri...but then he used Rics in those days

I know that at least one Dio bassist played a P on a Dio record. The studio video was posted on the second page. Great tone. The Jis probably more flexible, but depending on the player, the P can sounds very good in metal.

I thought Chi was using a P Deluxe?
I know Jordie White (Marilyn Manson, later A Perfect Circle) used a P Deluxe, at least in the Perfect Circle phase.

Jim Sheppard from Nevermore uses 5-string P-basses, with Bartolini pickups. He also plays with a pick. He pulls off an interesting tone too - which makes for a good mix IMO, especially since Jeff Loomis started to down-tune more.
