Metal/Hard rock guys that use Stingrays?

Sepultura's Chaos A.D. was recorded with a Stingray... Not an Alembic as many would have you believe!

Paolo Said it had a graphite neck, so does that make it a Cutlass? Anyway it sounds like a Ray. Like bells being fired from brass cannons.

Jeremy Chatelain on the 'Handsome' album, there's a great grindy Stingray tone there. Little known sadly but a killer record.

OK, so its not metal, more like classic rock...however, one of my favorite Stingray tones is Joe Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult. Listen to the verse sections of "Burnin' For You", great Stingray tone and a pretty cool bassline to boot.

Also, very few people have actually heard it, but on Dream Theater's first album (When Dream and Day Unite), John Myung played a heavily modified Stingray. He added his own neck pickup and wired it with seperate outputs, running one clean and one heavily distorted. Kind of like Billy Sheehan's P-bass trick, but with a Stingray.

Fugazi isn't really a metal/Hard Rock band, but Joe Lally certainly does sound amazing on his Stingray.

Having said that now, though, I seem to recall an interview with Flea where he said Blood Sugar Sex Magik was actually recorded mostly with a Wal bass. I may be off on that however, as it was a long time ago.

the dude from the Devin Townsend Band, Justin Chancellor of tool uses one at times i've heard (mostly uses the Wal Basses though). dunno if you'd consider it hard rock but the chap in The Afghan Whigs did (at least on 'Black Love'). the dude from Chiodos used to.

a whole heap, they're just hard to think of off hand.

I'm sure Robert Trujillo was mentioned. He may not still use them but it was his bass of choice to audition.

I had one, and they're great for that. They cut through the mix nicely and can sound really agressive. I would imagine a rosewood neck would suit this music more than a maple one though. There's a HUGE diference with Rays.
