Metal with a horn section/Jazz Metal

Bare in mind that Ephel Duath are Italian, and are so niche that they don't have a huge avenue for distribution at the moment. I had to go through absolute hell to get a hold of "The Painter's Palette" (it was an epic journey), so you may have to import a copy of the new one or scour eBay when it comes out.

I also hope that the new release is more like Painter's Palette than Rephormula. Rephormula contains no jazz or horns.

The line-up is completely different than when they released their debut (I think they used to be a duo only), and the focus is on heavy jazz rather than that weird sort of electro black metal they originally put out. Its opera/classical metal(?) The band Apocolyptica (spl?) has a Quartet of cellist along with a full band (drummer, guitarist, bassist). I couldnt recommend you anything because its my friend that really likes them, And shes let me listen to a couple of songs. Very "Final Fantasy", end of the wrold type songs, I think if I took the time to listen to them I would like 'em.

My old bass teacher/friend used to have a band in Richmond, VA called SäU. He always described it to people as "Herb Alpert meets Slayer"

I'm also supposed to do a review of it, too, so you can read my incredibly biased opinions on it

Funny, the thought just entered my head, east bay soul (ala Tower of Power) meets east bay thrash (ala Metallica). The double bonus, being both a bassist and one time-ish trumpeter, downtuning to Eb puts one right in key with the Bb trumpets, Bb trombones, Bb tenor saxs, Eb bari saxes, and Eb alto saxes. Any steel-soul-esque bands as such?
The Urge is somewhat like Metal with a Horn section, but with some reggae, and ska. They broke up a few years ago; you can still get their music pretty easily.
Check out Receiving the Gift of Flavor. I think it's their best IMO.

Check out Lights For Nero. I would call them jazz violence. Grindcore with a horn section, and the occasional banjo.

For some cool heavy music with horns, see if you can hunt down an album by an Ontario band named Glueleg (now defunct, unfortunately). Their first major release (either eponymous or called "Park Alien", I can't remember), is just amazing. Bass player is smokin, too, and plays stick on a bunch of songs. Also a sweet rendition of Red by King Crimson on the album, too. Some really dark, heavy riffing with keening brass melodic lines over top. The second album is a bit more accessible, but at the same time more experimental as well. I believe it's called Clodhopper.

I've been searching for this style of metal as well for some time. You should start a band that sounds like the music you want to hear! Luckily for you, there are plenty of ska kids without bands right now because.. well ska sucks... snag their horn section and make it happen.
I finally checked this song out. Very nice. I always thought Gwar as a joke-band, but that song was very cool. Actually, I'll add that I liked all the songs of their's that I found.
