Metal you've been enjoying lately

what you mean SOAD won't reform :( I have to go listen to spiders now!!!

I have been cranking a weird assortment, lots of metallica (especially comparing all the old stuff to the new album, the new album is really growing on me!), static x, coal chamber, diablo swing orchestra (haven't gotten the album yet but want to just to support them! best new find for me!) and as always hitting the roadrunner united album (In the fire with king diamond rocks)

I've actually been trying to get into a little more of the 'core' side
(all that remains, HORSE the band (who are just awesome), 36 crazyfists etc etc) mainly because im going to soundwave festival and I have already seen devildriver and lacuna coil so thinking of checking out the other bands I usually wouldn't... It should be awesome though,... NIN will be there and Alice in chains! so can't wait till february!

and to answer about why I like metal,... there is just nothing like it,... and its not 'song written by someone else' its people putting their passion and energy into it to make good music... I tend to like the less death / grindy bands and more into melodic/progressive/nu metal but for me distortion in your face, mixed with crazy riffs, beats that just make you want to headbang in time,... maybe you should watch metal: a headbangers journey, very good documentary,... and to quote the end of that movie

Sam Dunn: Ever since I was 12 years old I had to defend my love for heavy metal against those who say it's a less valid form of music. My answer now is that you either feel it or you don't. If metal doesn't give that overwhelming surge of power that make the hair stand up at the back of your neck, you might never get it, and you know what? That's okay, because judging by the 40,000 metalheads around me we're doing just fine without you.

:D

btw thankyou to the people that got me into the 'stoner metal' bands,... can't recall the thread but I like almost all the bands that were mentioned!

Bleh, if there's one kind of metal I REALLY dont like its black metal. I dont see ANY appeal at ALL.

I mean, sure, I listen to Burzum. But thats just because I find it hilarious, and its more ambient than anything else. But I think black metal just sounds like a chopper with a repetitive monotonous riff and screaming on top... Horrible.

Black metal fan: "Have you heard of this band?"

Nathan Explosion: "Yeah I think so"

Black Metal Fan: "Well then I hate it!"

:D

awww man SOAD were like my whole teenage years! plus not many bands cover the range of crazy stuff that they do,... to be honest haven't actually listened to scars on broadway, might have to listen to them! EDIT: scars on broadway and serj solo stuff is boring to me,... its like one of the elements that made SOAD great but unless you had all 4 it just isn't the same!

and yeah DSO I got introduced to from a thread on here, keep going back to youtubing the songs so I figure will shell out for the album this pay :D

I cleaned out my cd racks today, so putting on some ill nino, killswitch engage, trivium and opeth that I haven't heard in ages!!!

burzum are aweful but there are far beter black metal bands in norway i assure you. bands like ulver (there early stuff there later stuff is really cool ambient stuff) bands like Gorgoroth, Windir, Enslaved. among countless others also one of my favorite nowiegain bands blood red throne more death metal than black. but there is a metal goldmine up there

Hmm...lately.
Cynic, Unexpect, Textures, Sikth, Pain of Salvation and Gojira.

I've heard of Spiral Architect, but not any of their music. Heard of Aghora too, I'll look into all of this! Have you heard any Gordian Knot? Oh man, Sikth never came out to Aus, I would've been at that show for sure. Such a shame they've broken up though, good thing they released 2 amazing albums :D

Behold the arctopus are cool, not really brutal.. but certainly technical and an aquired taste. When I first herd these guys i was like "What the hell?" But its grown on me.
I'd like to hear some vocals over BtA songs, although they might possibly be the strangest things I've ever heard. They're still awesome though, the chord progression that starts near the end of Exospacial Psionic Aura...dreamy.
