So here's my Official Metalhead story

12/30/1992 , Del Mar CA. Fairgrounds. Standing room only....no seats

Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies. Robert T. was there. He recently started going by his real name, before that he went by the name Stymee, so I really didn't know who he was.

I had just broken my arm and had a cast on. Thank god I did because I had to beat my way out of the mosh pit!!....it was insane!!

Still one of the greatest shows I've ever been to!

Have been a true Metalhead ever since......

Count me in. I am from Poway CA. I was there in 1992 I wonder how it is I missed the fact Megadeth was playing at the fair??? I'd have for sure gone.

My first metal show was a local gig in Lake Side, bass player for Raven Mad picked me and my nephew up and took up to a show he was playing, the year was 1984. We were only 15 and the bass player knew my older sister.

I am in. 100%!!!! Born in 69, baptized in about 1980 to the metal community

Proud of my pointy basses; denim jacket with Iron Maiden back patch and buttons; my white Nike high tops from 1984; my love of all music that is short fast and loud, or long, slow and loud; all of my black-light posters, which are up in the practice room right now; also my metal band logo mirrors won at the State Fair throwing darts at balloons; love all genres...well except nu-metal and rap-metal...

my first metal concert - in 7th grade - was Iron Maiden and Judas Priest(Number of the Beast/Screaming For Vengeance tour); got to see Metallica with Cliff; Megadeth with Gar Samuelson on drums; camped out for front row tickets to many a show; got to see Minor Threat live, as well as many other of the 80's era hardcore bands; got to see Queensryche do Mindcrime in it's entirety on the Empire tour; remember when Metal Blade only had 10 or 11 bands signed....still have many of my metal band painters caps (remember when those were "in"? or was that just an Ohio thing?);

Have played in metal bands all my life

Ian MacKaye, Steve Harris and Geddy are my biggest influences.

Up The Irons!!!!

I remember the painters caps. They were the thing down here in So Cal to....I was born in in 67" so I'm right with you.

Man I remember seeing Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio (so many others) at the San Diego Sports arena. @Metalbasspro probably remembers some of those concerts to.

It was and still is this huge concrete arena that just was murder on acoustics. Probably the worst place for a concert I've ever been to. But back in the day we didn't give a sh$t, it was just one big party and that's all we cared about......I love that old metal!

Cool man. It is now in my Sig!!!

We had a little place called "Battelle Hall" that was a concrete box dressed up like a concert hall. It sat about 8000 when full. Pretty much was THE place for shows here in Columbus Oh. I saw Maiden, Preist, Def Leppard, Rush, Yes, Kansas, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Queensryche, Metallica, Ozzy...the first "Clash of the Titans tour (with Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer), Dio, Black Sabbath, Accept, Keel, Helix....most of the good groups there.

We also have The Newort, which is where hte smaller or newer groups played, as well as some biggies. It is a general admission place...an old theater with the seats removed on Ohio States campus. Best place for punk and metal! Saw Testament, Exodus, Armored Saint, Dokken, Faith No More, Primus, COC, DRI, Kings X, Slayer, Sanctuary, Nevermore, Fates Warning, Pantera, ....too many more to type there.

We also used to have the Alrosa Villa...where Dimebag got shot...that was out metal Mecca. I grew up playing there, and saw many memorible shows there as well. Saw Pantera there on the Cowboys From Hell tour. There were maybe 75 people there (the place held about 800 when full). IT was like hanging with them at a practice. Also saw Dream Theater there on the Images and Words tour, once again with about maybee 100 people there. tha twas also awesome. Portnoys drum set took up the ENTIRE stage. The other guys were literally on the floor.

F - yeah man, you are a true metal head....BTW, I watched your You Tube video....that's pretty sweet!!

We use to go up to Glen Helen Parkway, and check out the Ozzy fest every year. Man that was just a freaking circus, by the end of the day people were passed out everywhere laying in there own puke. One year these guys were daring this dude to light himself on fire.....and he did it!!! We were all trying to put him out. He was f'd up to say the least. They hauled him off in an ambulance......good times man!

There are too many sub genres today IMHO.

To me it all boils down to two genres, Black Sabbath & Motorhead.
Most bands, no all bands, that play metal today, wouldn't be around without at least one of those bands.

Motorhead are the godfathers of crossover, so I include the Ramones as the other genre I allow in my life.

The same applies to Punk bands, w/o the Ramones...

How do you guys manage these gigantic signatures? Mine only allows me 4 lines of text.

you have to be a supporting member of some level

I agree tha tfor the most part we are over sectionalizing the style. To me, there is fast metal, slow metal, and metal with odd time signatures...three main Kingdoms...the rest is nit-picking

thanks man!!! It is during practice so there were a few flubs in there, but that is a beginnign idea of the band I am in right now. All original 80's Crossover/thrash; Hardcore influenced metal! We are going into the studio this winter to put some stuff down. We also have a couple of CD's already available on iTunes

yeah. The first 3 Ozzfest's were great...and then it sort of spiraled into mainstream mediocrity, at least for me. Here in C-bus, they were ripping pieces of sod out of the ground and throwing them around the pit. We are talking like 6 foot long by 3 foot wide pieces with the grass and like 4-6" of dirt. It was like getting hit with a freakin' car!
