Metallica or Megadeth

the fact that this debate is going on in 2013 makes me depressed...both of these bands are over. They haven't been relevant in years, and I remember reading through the same flame wars and "arguments" on aol "heavy metal" chatrooms 13-14 years ago(anybody else remember those? lol)..

I picked Metallica, if only because of Master of Puppets.

Cliff Burton was THE metal bass player. if he had lived longer, Metallica would've been the best.

I'd take Slayer over either of the two M's, but I'm not going to pretend that Kerry King was anything other than a whammy-bar merchant.

This. Sure, you can cherry-pick all the greatest musicians you want out there, but if the song writing isn't there, you're S.O.L., which is why I'll always take Metallica over Megadeth, and then Slayer or Testament over both.

Also, your quote makes me think of the solo from Slayers "World Painted Blood" that always reminds me of a basket of cute mewing kittens, anyone else hear it?

Based on their first four albums, I voted Metallica. Mustaine's vocals are a deal breaker for me.

For me it's Megadeath.

Old Metallica is killer - up to the Black album - then Metallica obviously saw the money and sold out. But if you listen to Megadeath from the beginning to now, to me it represents a natural musical progression.

Plus, Dave let Dave play bass.
IMO, anyway.

I have never cared for Metallica and I love Megadeth's stuff up to United Abominations so I would definitely choose Megadeth even though their last 3 albums have been god awful and Dave Mustaine is turning more and more into an *******, refusing to play their amazing classics live.

But also because Vinny Caliuta played on their last album! And Marty Friedman is no slouch.

Lars is not only the worst drummer in metal, but is also terribly annoying.

Master of Puppets is the best album either band put out, but Killing is my Biz and Peace Sells are 2 and 2a. Kill em All is probably 3, but Dave wrote half the songs on it. Gotta call it a draw to that point.

Next factor for me would be which cover is the most lame, Anarchy in the UK or Turn the Page. Ooh, they're both lame.

And Megadeth had already lost their best guitar player and drummer by the time that album came out.

EDIT: If it's true that Vinnie Colaiuta played on a Megadeth album, then I have to say "best drummer to that point".

I don think so. That album was with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza, who carried through Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, and I believe Cryptic Writings. Unless you're referring to a previous line up.
