Double Bass Mic and pickup, wich amplification did / will you choose ?

So, no love for my Pocket Blender? Is this a red state/blue state thing?

I'm not seeing any love for anything here... :/

My complete amplification setup:

Installed piezo/pre-amp...
Vic's Model C (bridge wing pickup and fingerboard pickup combo)
K&K Dual Channel Pro ST to amp and/or FOH

Mounted mic...
Sennheiser e604 for clear feed to amp or FOH
(Requires impedance transformer for amp)


Amp choices:

Either piezo or mic...
Roland Micro Cube Bass RX (1 channel combo amp) and/or FOH
(This is usually my preferred config, using either piezo or mic. I also really prefer the tone of my Sennheiser e604 when at all possible, but if I need more volume while also needing to minimize bleed and feedback, I'll use the piezo/pre-amp system.)

Both piezo and mic (blended)...
Roland Street Cube RX (2 channel combo amp) and/or FOH
(Rarely needed.)

These preferred amp choices center around low weight, small size and battery operation. I also use wireless, so there are no signal or power cables used between my bass and my amp choices.


I also have two x 550w Behringer Eurolive B212D powered PA speakers that I can use in any combination if necessary.

Hello,

Maybe it was already debated but I would like to have your feed back about your amplification system ( + and - ).
To amplify a DB with a piezo pickup + a microphone .
3 possibilities come to my mind :

1 - 2 channels preamp like headway edb-2 with a bass combo or bass amp head
2 - Mixer + active speaker(s)
3 - a acoustic amp with 2 channels

Wich one did you choose ( or will you choose ? )
Of course for an honest budget ( not the dream gear if you'll become rich tomorrow)

Example : I own an old trace eliot amp head + 2 genz benz speaker ( 15'' , that's maybe not the best size of speakers for db) and a combo tc bg250 (2 x8 '').

--> If a go for an headway edb-2 ( around 300 € ). will I get a good result ? ( with one 15 speaker) or with the tc 2x8 ( wich is not an high end combo).
Or must I get an better bass amplification to use with the headway, a most expensive project so ... why not check to other possibilities.

Let me know and why ( better sounds, weight / transport / price ) flexibility )

I use the headway 2 to drive various powered speakers, such as PJB PB100 and Schertler Pub. I use it in conjunction with any number of pickups. I just acquired the REmic D540, which I like very much. I also have Schertler Dyn- B, Realist soundclip, Full circle, and AMT S25B. I use them all in various combinations depending on the instrument. I also have a a Schertler yellow Blender, which I has superior tonal qualities IMHO vs. the Headway2, but battery operation with Headway saves space and checklist items in the gigbag. I am getting the new headway 2-HE. Plenty of used headway 2’s abound, perhaps mine will soon be among them with my upgrade on the way. I acquired most of this gear used at great prices, usually after conducting a targeted search via Google , search term and images. I didn’t buy until I found the specific target item at the best price and condition, so diligent searching was required for weeks, perhaps months. Obviously, I like the flexibility separate preamps and powered cabs afford me. Additionally, I can pack the pb100 and headway and cables, mic, etc.in a plastic backpack designed for a drone, of all things. less than 25 pounds total in the backpack, and bass goes on the bass buggy.all this to facilitate schlepping a bass in NYC, usually via subway. Obviously gear hasn’t seen much use in the past several months with live music only returning in a very limited capacity in NYC At the moment.

I've discovered the Pocket Blender, I found it really interisting but
- almost impossible to find one in France
- I've found some used for a "decent" price on reverb ( usa sellers) but expedition cost was too important.

But I keep it my mind !

Haha, I literally started a thread last year asking why my Pocket Blender sounded so good.

I'm going to cry on the day that thing gives up on me.
