WELL jaco 16th mutted badness , stanley ,pattuicci sp they play elct and upright very well . And vic whom I have met and talked with many times is a groo00ve monster bill dickens tech is unreal..... Jamersons grooves
make me smile no matter what. Mr Miller whom I tend to write like
he pays notes that make songs sound so good.... I could go on but I think you get the point. I just do find van hagars bass player enjoyable to listen to at alll.... I mean jamerson did not have wicked tech but you can't deny the feel of the groove period.

I guess I am a gruve type player and thats what I like. ok ok he doesn't suck and might be better then me. hahah but that solo sucked and I don't like his music....

I am really a good guy but my mouth gets away from me and most people think any one thats on tv is like a god . I don't
also if I can play it . It CANT BE THAT GOOD.HEHEH
BECAUSE i SUXOR. in perspective...

JUST good HELL any one there are 10000000s of bass players .

Hard to argue with whatever you just said.

I have a family I would not go on tour for all the money in the world and miss my childrens life... sorry I am happy with my life ... what so hard to understand I don't like the dudes playing ......

you people are somthing else ........... you must like every one or your an ash thats dumb!!!!!!!!

to me most people are fake they say nice thing about people that they don't like just because they know if they are fake people will like them.... fake.... you know like telling that fat ugly girl she's fine just so you can get some...........fake......

Well, as much fun as you are to toy with Armando, I'm afraid it just ain't right to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. So, I'll just let you go back to where ever it is you came from.
Don't get so upset, playing Bass isn't for everyone! I'm sure there is something you do well.

And Remember .... DON'T FORGET TO TAKE THE MEDICINE EVERY DAY!

I hear his hot sauce is quite good. :D
I kinda liked it. It was different. I mean, come on. It's 1982! Michael and David are so mashed it's amazing they could stay upright. I thought dropping the bass and then having his tech hand him another one was a bit much but that's just how they do it! I loved all those weird sounds at the beginning and end of the solo.

As always, Eddie is calm as can be; so efficient.

...But those bands just don’t pull the crowds that a nirvana cover band does so the clubs don’t pay as much and the bands I get into are 10 member not a 3-4 piece.
But it just seems most people are more into the look than the sound it drives me mad!
Tell me about it! I live in NYC! There's always gonna be that battle between artistic integrity and money. The key is to not let the money get in the way!

What effects did he use for the beginning, it sounded wild!

In that era, Anthony was using MXR and ADA flangers, an Electro-Harmonix Bass synth, and Roland Chorus Echos...A mix of those is the opening tone.

It's very similar to the stock 'Spaceman' patch on a BNX 3, with tighter filtering.

I like that solo...He's crowd pleasing, and that's what matters.

The great Armando has deleted all his posts.

Guess he was tired of being "reamed"!

My take on Michael Anthony is just like 20db pad said;
if you're playing bass in a band with Eddie Van Halen, good taste and common sense dictate you just lay it down, keep it simple, and stand back.

Anything else is a good way to lose your job. Yes; he's really solid and good at what he does!;)

for the love of all that's holy please stop typing out "hahahha".

I know of a board that has a filter that replaces "hahaha" with... well, something hilarious that could never be spoken here. :D

As for MA I'm firmly in the "it works for Van Halen" camp. He's stated numerous times that he holds himself back because the instrumental show is all about EVH. Also, consider the fact that the man left college to go pro with VH only 3-6 credits away from his degree in music - he has to have some skill on his primary instrument. ;)

On the latter albums I think he's develops a nice Rocco-esque 16th-note groove. IMO Alex is all about the backbeat, so someone has to propel the rhythm.

But wasn't the first bass a Roland synth bass, a similar model Phil Lynott was using during the last stages of his career? Maybe some of the wild sounds came from that?

Stu Hamm played the bass for passion & warfare
TM Stevens did Sex & Religion
Philip Bynoe did parts of Fire Garden & Ultra Zone & Alive in an Ultra Word (Steve also did some bass himself).
Billy Sheehan does the bass duties on reflections.

Okay....is it really safe to say that he's a great pocket player but the solo left a lot to be desired? This is NOT a dis to Mr. Anthony but I just dont like picked bass.....different strokes I guess, I do believe that what he does works for the band he's in, and in the end, thats all that matters right?

Home come he didn't chug a bottle of JD while his bass was feeding back?! I felt a little ripped off.

:D

I like some of his lines... but generally dislike the band. I got free tickets to the first "Monsters Of Rock" and was shocked and embarrased by that solo (with the JD chugging).

Like Ian Hill from Priest, he is a sold player that does his job well... which doesn't include soloing IMHO.
