Michael Anthony Gets the Boot from Van Halen

I listened to the interview the VH brothers did with Rolling Stone 2weeks ago-

Eddie Van Halen sounds barely together.
"...they came down to see my son...kicking my ass!"

I suspect this is true. quite sad really.

it must be bad enough for 15yr-old Wolfgang to see his dad in this state, but what will it be like for him to see his dad fall apart on tour in front of packed stadiums.....

Thanks for posting that link, it was an interesting interview. In that interview Eddie stated that the rythmn section consisted of himself and Alex rather than Alex and a bass player?!? What was Micheal Anthony doing? It sounded like he was laying it down for Eddie to be able to do his thing. Eddie and Alex need to wise up, grudges hurt the people holding them alot more then the people they are held against. Who would want to be involved with these guys after the way they have treated all of the people around them. Very distastful way for them to behave. They should reign in the venom for Wolfies sake. The kid should'nt be exposed to that stuff.

Yup. I was such a mark for anything Van Halen in those days that I read any interview Eddie did and he related this similar thought anytime Mike's name came up.

Unfortunately, it's all become personal, not musical at this point. Otherwise you have the best "man" for the job. And the best man for the job in Van Halen is Michael Anthony.

I'm hoping Eddie cleans up and lives long enough to someday realize what a putz he's been and give the "real" Van Halen a better shot at returning.

from those archived interviews it's apparent EVH had problems dealing with being in the public eye even then- being idolised, copied, journalists twisting his words, and then being paranoid about not getting the respect he deserves.

the idea of replacing MA with Billy Sheehan in the late 80's seems purely out of spite-

how the hell could that work with EVH not wanting to be overshadowed? he'd probably have told Sheehan to stick to root notes- no way would that last.

This grim season continues for Van Halen: Guitar hero Eddie Van Halen announced Thursday that he is going into a rehab program with a statement that came just hours after David Lee Roth declared his intention to skip the band's induction ceremony Monday into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In a statement addressed to fans, Van Halen talked about the implosion of the planned summer reunion tour for Van Halen that was keyed off the Hall induction.

"I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best.... Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better."

Van Halen's last public announcement was a giddy posting in early February on the band's website that he would be back on tour with Roth for the first time since the Reagan Administration. Those plans fell apart, with numerous sources close to the venture blaming disorganization and lack of communication in the band as well as eccentric behavior by guitarist Van Halen.

On the last Van Halen tour in 2004 and 2005 (featuring Sammy Hagar as frontman), guitarist Van Halen had some rough nights that called into question his level of drinking; one of them was in Chicago, where the rock star stumbled badly on several occasions and quit playing during one song and sacked out on stage.

On Monday, in New York, only bassist Michael Anthony and Hagar are expected to represent the Van Halen banner. Roth said Thursday that he will skip the event because organizers had opted to let Velvet Revolver perform Van Halen songs during the band's induction segment as opposed to letting a partial lineup go on, especially one with two singers and a bassist. Drummer Alex Van Halen is expected to skip the ceremony out of loyalty to his brother, a source near the family said.

Wow. Just wow. How totally schlocked out do you have to be to miss an honor like that? I mean, most people don't take the "rock and roll hall of fame" too seriously, but it should be considered an honor to be inducted, right? At least you show up.
