Michael Cera's Bass

Mr. Cera......keep on rockin'.....enjoy playing bass, it's the best instrument. Welcome to the club!

If you have so many people hating on you for playing bass, you must be doing something right. =)

You should buy this shirt and wear it at every gig. =)

Maybe they picked him because he's their friend and is good enough to play what they need played. Maybe one of the guys is dating his mom... who cares? He's not putting some "artist" out of work.

I'm glad someone is finally pointing out the obvious instead of arguing how talanted he is or isn't. I'm pretty rubbish at bass, but the reason I'm in my band instead of all the talanted guys around here: I'm friends with the rest of the band! Who knew?

I tried to make that point earlier. Seems like it fell on deaf ears (or eyes in this instance). :eyebrow:

I read in U2byU2 (book) that Adam Clayton wasn't acomplished on the bass at all when they started but he was a cool hang and "Looked the part" so he was in. since them Adam (IMO) has become a very intergral part of that band and fills thed bass role VERY well, I can't hate on Cera because he has a great opertunity, whether he got that opertunity beacause he is a cool hang, looks the part, or is a celebrity. Good for him, he seems to take it seriously.

This has a bit of foundation that is often overlooked. On the pro level, you need to find someone who is both talented and easy to work with. I'd personally take the grade B player with an awesome attitude than the grade A elitist [explitive]. You'd be hard-pressed to find a producer who doesn't share the same belief. There are odd cases, but they are few and far between.

I don't remember who made the "there's bassists with master's or Phd's in music out of jobs and michael cera gets this gig?!" arguement. But I can't even wrap my head around that arguement at all. In college, I noticed the undergrad music majors had already started down the elitist path of "there's nothing good out there, only I and the other music majors know what good music is and you don't so you're wrong" attitude that I seem to have noticed in the majority of music students, be they undergrad, or graduate, or doctorate students. I don't care if they know more about music and can probably play the hell out of their bass, if I was in the position that this band is in, I would also be like "yea this guy can play his bass, but he's kind of a dick. why don't we just get michael cera because he's our friend and he's cool and he can handle it." The haters are reading way too far into this situation. Especially considering that Michael cera isn't even a confirmed permanent member of this band. He's probably just their friend.

I am by no means a professional, but I've been in situations with bands where I've quickly realized that if I'm not doing it with my friends, then it's not worth doing. I'd rather play with a good friend who is ok at their instrument, than play with someone who is awesome at their instrument but I don't get along with at all. Isn't playing music supposed to be about having fun?

It was me, and it was satire, I saw the OP had a degree in music (BA) and so, I said that and then when on to laud praise on Flea as an actor, while dis-ing Michael J Fox I thought that would be enough of a tell...

The OP then went on to quote me as one of the few who shared his intellect and opinion.

I do find it intesting that if most of us will follow an artist we find interesting, regardless of artistic media. I remember desperatly saving to buy collage piece by John Lennon while in high school. By the time I saved the dough, everything had gone up to a point where I couldn't afford it.
I ended up buying a Georgia O'keffe litho. My interst in Lennon was through his music and carried over to his other works.
Maybe we should give the same courtesy to, Cera, Reeves, Huckabee, Seinese
