Blackbeard Guitars is an Italian luthier making guitars and basses with reclaimed wood at reasonable prices. They do look great and are sold t a fraction of the Michael League one.

For example this beast of a bass:
Double P Poplar - Blackbeard Guitars

Goes for 1850€, around 2K $

I like those better and not just because of price. The look of those appeal to me more.

Is that sound from the worm holes or the pickups? Or is it the tone knob turned down and the loose light gauge loose he's bending all over the neck? (rhetorical question)

Notice the video the strings League is using on the bass he demos aren't the same as what the builder was installing on another one on his bench.

Are we supposed to believe the first time League tried out this bass, the one he instantly fell in love with--and the one about he said "change nothing"--in the narrative were the same strings?

How about a heavy Pbass with live termites in it? Then it gets lighter and lighter over time.

We've got subterranean termites and an ample backyard/garden here in Eagle Rock. If you want to bury an Alder or Ash body or blank or two in a hole out back for experimentation's sake...

I'm aware. Typo on my part. Good catch! I originally had the 4P-60 in it. I currently have the hot pup installed.

I didn't have a problem with CV Squiers per se. Prior to buying I already had a chance to play a few and was impressed. My only misgiving back when I bought it around 2014 was that it was the first mainsteam bass I had ever bought sight unseen. (Sweetwater)

I've since gotten over that hangup.

All I recall is that he's said--and it appears--he likes Dunlop flats on his '59 P bass and the string silks on the two different Baca Amrita basses I've spotted in his hands appeared to be blue.

Maybe the worm holes lighten it up and make it more resonant? The Squier version could just have a load of tiny holes drilled in it. Some machine could drill it pretty fast and cheap. Or just get a hollow body. The Guild Starfire with the P pickup?

First, kiln dried "roasted" woods and now wormholes chewed through the body?? What next....basses with partial carves and broken strings?? I've got some tree bark with woodpecker holes in it. Only 10,000 bucks a piece...free shipping.

Next thing you know you'll be able to pay extra for a new bass that's been beat up to look like it's old!
