Micro Q-Tron

Opinions? Complaints? Love? Hate?

I'm bored with my FX25b and I'd like something different and better. Just a basic envelope filter. I've heard some people say ohhhh the Q-Tron+ is the best but for nearly $100 more than the Micro I'd expect that.

Volume drop or volume spike issues?

If you own one or have played one, what do you think of it?

If you own or have played a FX25b, how much better is the Micro Q-Tron?

I do own a micro q-tron and after alot of playing around i love it. i did have volume drops in high and band pass settings at first, btu there is an internal trimpot to adjust that so no more volume drop. It sounds awsome in band pass mode, low pass is a little subtle but i still like it. You can adjust the Q to taste, and find the sweet spot for the drive knob based on your volume level of your bass, playing style ect. It sounds mean after/before (depending on the sound your looking for) distortion or fuzz, and i really cant think of anything bad to say about it, it seems rather popular around here.

I got one for Xmas and I'm still on the fence about it. It definitely gets all the Qtronish funky sounds I wanted out of it, but I had a rough time getting it to work in the band situation. I have a strong feeling that the perfect settings are in there, I just couldn't find them the few times I fiddled with it. I lost too much bottom, and it sounded kind of boxy at the best settings I could find.

I'm plugging in here for recommendations. I'm not giving up on it just yet.

Yea i had volume jump when i turned on low pass, and band pass was unusable unless the Q was around or lower then 11 oclock. After adjusting the trim pot everythign was so much better, i was up and ready to buy a new filter but my GAS is cured for another filter (until i fufill my more important GAS that is )

I owned a Mini and adored it except for the volume spike. Sold it to save pedal board space. Bought a Micro later on and just didn't feel the same mojo. I couldnt get my basses to react the same way. Didn't seem as warm and squelchy as the Mini so i returned it. I had no idea that there was a trim pot inside! Maybe that would have really helped.

I just got a Micro Q and when I first tried the HP, it sounded like I was listening to my bass on AM radio. The BP was better but still not good. I opened up the back and gave the trim pot a turn and it made a huge difference.

I also have an MXR Auto Q. I bought the Micro Q to compare them. I'm still not sure which I like better, but my first impression is that neither are as funky as the DOD FX25B I had. The only reason that I got rid of the DOD is that I couldn't deal with the huge volume loss I had with that pedal. It did sound awesome though!!

A lot of reviews on Harmony Central said the sound of the Q-tron was to die for, but the footswitch (on all versions) was flimsy and broke right away. Anybody experience this?

About the internal trimpot, is this an input sensitivity control to adjust to suit your pickups' loudness.

The footswitch is as good as any MXR or EH footswitch (which I think is pretty sturdy).

As far as the trimpot, I think it just increases the volume, not so much the sensitivity. The drive knob adjust the sensitivity.

I gave up on my Micro. Wish I'd have known about the internal pot.

I liked the sounds from it, but the volume spikes were so intense it was just down right scary through my B1500. It was painful, and at times I thought something would surely fry. The light bulbs in my Acmes would light up the driver surrounds sometimes.

I'm currently satisfied with the funkiness from my FX25 and for more subtlety and smoothness, the Boomstick Bottomfeeder.
