Double Bass Mics that plug directly into your phone

For the last number of years, I've used a Zoom IQ7 microphone with my iPhone. Brilliant! It had a Lightning connector, I plugged it directly into my iPhone, and I used Voice Memo or Camera and it worked great, a serious upgrade in sound quality for $100 and no wires to carry.

Now that my new iPhone has a USB-C connector, I'm looking for something similar - anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Can you buy an adapter?

I was wondering the same thing. Only I have the Am7 for Android and wanted to try it with my iPhone. I was thinking that an adapter could work as a workaround.

I ordered the adapter - thanks for the link - but it's not what I really want. The old setup allowed you to just grab your phone and move it, and I don't think that's going to be the case with the adapter, but I'll find out soon enough.

I would think that the adaptor route would be the cheapest route. They definitely make lighting to usb c adapters and cables’ be aware however that
a lightning microphone may not work as well (or at all) into a USB C device. Blue likely stopped making the Mikey plug in microphones, because Apple
Changed the connectors on the iPhone three different times, in less than three years ( analog 16 pin, to digital 16 pin, to lightning connector)I think Blue Microphone’s also changed hands during that time.

@Steve Freides I am using a VideoMic Me-C (the C meaning for a USB-C connection). It is quite small, weighs next to nothing, is reasonably directional for its size and works great with my iPhone 15 Pro Max for video recording the two bands in which my wife and I separately perform. And even by AUD standards, it's relatively cheap. Importantly, sound quality is good enough for our needs, too.

Maybe this?

[This invalid link has been removed]

Description says it works with iPhone15, not sure which you have. No idea about sound quality.

iPhone 15 had a Lightning connector; iPhone 16 is USB-C, so that's the rub here. I will look into both the links above - thanks very much.

I have an iPhone 15 and it has a USB-C connector. I believe it's 14 and older that require a lightning connector.

Also, the little thumbnail size lightning to USB-C adapters are for charging only and do not transmit or receive any data. However, a USB-C to Lightning cable should be completely compatible. Just something to check for before you buy.

I've successfully connected a few things to USBC on my old Samsung S10 phone: Samson USB dynamic podcast mic, presonus audiobox96, and oddly enough, a presonus 1818-- that allowed 18 record channels via Audio Evolution mobile studio ($10).
Point being that most devices should work, especially if they are class compliant.

Shure makes an excellent mic that does this. Will find it and edit the post with info

EDIT: Oops the model I was thinking of is lightning. The new model connects via a USB C cable:

No, @Steve Freides , the IPhone 15 has a USB-C connector. It was the first to use USB-C. I have an iPhone 15 PM and it most definitely uses USB-C.
Thank you for the correction I upgraded from a 10 (iPhone X) to a 16 so I missed all those in-between ones. I didn't realize the 15 also had USB-C

Probably won't work. That adapter has this in the description.
【Important Notice】It can charge and data sync between your phone and computer. Not support OTG video and audio functions, headphones, mouse, keyboard, flash drive, card reader, printer, microphone, camera, etc

There are other adapters on Amazon that are like a 2 or 3 inch cable that say they support audio/video.

I have an IQ7 that I have used with my iPhone XR and my old Lightning-based iPad Pro 9.7. After I got my iPad Air 4 (with USB-C), I contacted Zoom to ask if an adapter would work, and I was told that it wouldn’t. I asked if the USB-C model, the AM-7, would work, and again the answer was no, as it was designed for Android. I don’t know why it wouldn’t work on iOS, but that’s what they said. Something in the mic itself, I guess.

Now this is from memory, as I cannot find any trace of the email thread in my Gmail account. So you might contact Zoom to clarify and maybe get a suggestion for a different unit. When it becomes time to buy a new phone, I’ll probably keep my iPhone XR just to be able to use my IQ-7. It’s certainly good enough for that.

That's what I ended up doing. I want it, the AM-7, to work with the new iPhone 13. I still have my Samsung so I just use that.

Still might go against the grain and get an adapter anyway and try and it. I have other things the adapter may work with.
