Mid 60s? Gibson EB-3(PICS) would you make an Offer

Price and the meaning of "doesn't work" would be two important things to know. It looks intact, so I'm guessing no output. That could be anything from an easy fix (replace the pots) to a nightmare (somebody probably makes a replacement for that pickup, but it will be harder to find than a J set)
He told me it would short out and that it needs like 500$ of work but Im not sure wear its really cool looking tho even if its a MudBucker Bass
You posted your second pics while I was typing my reply. How bad is that neck joint? The crack in the neck is ugly, but looks stable. The neck joint, I can't tell. Is the neck loose? It sort of looks like it, but could just be the lighting. You can reset a neck, but it is an expensive repair.
Assuming he's not just giving it to you, I'd look for a used late model SG bass. They still look cool, are more tonally flexible, and aren't all jacked up. And 500 bucks would get you a fair chunk of the way to buying one
Those EB0 basses don't even have much value. Just poking around elite verb for a minute, the going price on clean ones from the later 60s is about 900 bucks. Unless this is free, skip it
Ya the neck pocket was our concern it dosent move at all the the strings seem alined with the fretboard but with prolonged tension it could be a problem be a problem
This model is not an "SG Bass" but was known as the "EB-3" throughout its entire original production run, starting in 1960-61. Look up 1961 EB-3 to get comps.

Ya I just wasnt sure between EB-3 or something Ive always called them the sg bass just like the telecaster bass is a Precision
Somehow I missed the bridge pickup in like 9 pictures. That is an eb3 not 0, and it is still only worth 900 bucks in much better shape than that one.
Look up the Gibson SG bass and see what they're going for. In 1961 it was called an EB-3 and it had a 4-position "chicken-head" switch to select combinations of the pickup, not a typical 3-way toggle switch. That's very likely NOT an EB-3 from the '60s at all, but the much more recent Gibson SG-bass.

Looks like it has had some significant modifications, including the removal of the varitone switch, which will reduce any collector value. Here's my all original 69 EB-3 for comparison.
Im aware this isnt a closet classic but would be a cool piece if restored the switch was obviously replaced with a toggle
It's in too bad of shape for my taste unless the price is extremely low. The $500 worth of repairs is more than I would give for the bass. That's just my opinion. In good original shape it would be a cool bass. I'm a long time SG bass player starting with an EB0, then an EB3 and finally I'm on my 2nd SG Standard.

I like it alot. Id say get it and fix it . Offer him like 100 since its unplayable and he told you it needs 500 in repairs and see where he gose from there. Love the look of that headstock perfect amount of wear.
