Middle finger joint.

My left hand middle finger joint have been having pain. It comes and goes. Do any of you guys do anything when this happen to you? Please reply I got to do jurys tomorrow. Man, I hope the pain leaves soon. :hmm:

Check your finger pressure when you fret notes, as well as your hand position. If you press the tip straight into the string, the strain is a lot less than if you press with your finger more parallel to the surface of the fretboard. Do you bend the tip back when you fret notes with that finger? That will definitely cause this kind of pain.

Also, you don't need to bump a thread after only ten minutes.

Stretching and slow warm-ups help. I put slight pressure backwards on each finger for 10 seconds, then I spend a couple of minutes working pairs of fingers up the neck playing frets that get farther apart. I.E. 1st and 4th fingers I play notes 5 frets apart starting with my pinky on the 12th fret, then I work my way up till the fingers are stretching, then I do fingers 1 and 3, four frets apart. (did I explain that right?)

I have what's called Trigger Finger in the ring fingers on both hands. (it's a genetic thing with the Celts and the Viking hordes) When I practice too much it hurts for days, but I'm not smart enough to stop practicing till the pain goes away. :hmm:

These help, and they make a nice fashion statement.

They might help out with regular finger strain from over practicing.

It's arthritis. I have the same problem in the first joint of my left hand index (nose picking) finger. That's why those guys on commercials are boomers with a band. Oh. Maybe that's a prostate or limp member commercial.

My diagnosis is based purely on your symptom(s) and influences listed in your profile. ;)

Doctors can do so much more now that it is amazing. I just had the middle joint on the middle finger of my left hand replaced. I damaged that finger back in the 70's by bending the finger all the way back to the wrist while snow skiing. It decided to quite working recently and the hand doctor said that is arthritis but lets take an Xray. The xray gave the full story hence the operation. It is working now but will take a lot of stretching and retraining.
