Seriously, I think the white pearloid looks good if you are trying to offset the blue/purple. If you want people to really notice the blue then go with something 'calmer' on the pickguard. Parchment pearl, or plain parchment. Someone also suggested gold, which would look good as well.

I had a 99 Jazz (my first Fender bass) and I put a black pearl guard on it. I got lot's of compliments on that bird...

I've got a '99 MIM Midnight Blue Fender P. I love the color. It definitely can look purple-ish in the sunlight. Mine has black knobs and a black pickguard. I think the black looks sharp. It contrasts nicely, (much like Ric5's five-banger pictured above. ^^ )
I've thought of trying a mirrored pickguard though, just to see how I'd like it, but I get a lot of compliments on the look of my bass as it is, so I'll probably leave it alone.

Midnight Blue was a color Fender used for their "Standard" or "MIM" models, I have seen P-basses, and J-basses in this color as well as Strats and Teles. I don't think its a rare color however they no longer make them in that color. The current colors offered for Standards are Sunburst, Arctic White, Black, Candy Apple Red and Lake Placid Blue.
I think Lake Placid replaced Midnight Blue and Candy Apple replaced Midnight Wine, the other colors have remained. So yeah I guess Midnight Wine and Midnight Blue are more rare than sunburst, black or white but they are around.
I think Fender probably updated those colors in 2003 when they updated the standard series and stopped using black strat knobs on their basses, all the ones that I have seen had the strat knobs.

On this bass the white pick guard is perfect, especially because of the white line on the bass! Nice one!
It's done!! This is a '96 MIM w/solid black logo. I somehow deleted the full body shot I took this afternoon but anyway, I'm really liking the gold anodized pickguard on the blue body. Active EMG there w/a BadaAss II. You're not seeing the black Fender neckplate and black wilkinson tuners..
My first bass - Fernandes Gravity 4x is in deep blue, but to me its hard to say if it is Midnight Blue. I'm just a men, dont see a difference between colours 
Black pearloid looks great on a Midnight Blue bass. It's a color that Fender offers from time to time, but it's not that easy to find. Usually the offer the Midnight Red at about the same time. Mine's about a 2000 MIM Jazz. Nice bass, but heavy at nearly 9.5 pounds.

Yup, that's an other MIM Jazz in Midnight Blue. The white pearloid looks very good on it!
Strings are cut too short, though. Next time it would be a better idea to make sure there are 3-4 wraps on each tuning post.
