Might be playing in a cast

So this was last discussed here about 6 years ago. I'm going in for orthoscopic surgery on my right wrist (I'm a right handed player) and will probably be put in a fiberglass cast, similar to the one pictured below. I'm a traditional two-finger plucker but I do a lot of thumb slapping as well. I obviously will not be slapping with a cast on, but I don't foresee too much problem playing with my two fingers. I'm sure it will be a PITA but doable. Playing in a blues/R&B/classic rock band.

Has anyone done this?

I've played with a splint on my right wrist/hand (sprained thumb) and even gigged while my right arm was in a sling/soft cast for a biceps tendon repair. You'll want to strap on the bass and see if you need to adjust your strap to accommodate the cast. Don't over-do it or get too crazy out there...

There is a reason the cast was used. Talk to your Doctor he/she is better qualified than any of us to answer that question. No point messing up what has been fixed.

OP, while I sympathize with your situation, this forum is for discussing "general" technique....not for anything involving arthroscopic surgery.

Absolutely discuss this with your doctor. I'd be as excited to play your new Dingwall as you are, but the doctor may tell you to lay off and there might be enough pain involved to make that decision yourself.
