Might change my configuration to a pre/pow

Ive always used a bass head ..but have considered a preamp poweramp setup for awhile now.

Im looking at getting a Crown Xti-1000 from a TB'r ... and its looking like Ill be using my Sansamp VT Bass pedal as the pre amp.
My old ampeg ..unless Im totally daft ( which may be the case ) only has 1/4 jacks .....but to be honest I really havent looked at the back of the thing in months ..and it may have a speakon...which is besides the point.

The question that prompted this thread :

If I exit my pedal chain with the vt bass pedal last..and use a 1/4 to XLR cable to the input of the power amp..and then exit the power amp with a speakon to 1/4 jack cable will I have any issues??

The Speakon -> 1/4" is fine, no issues. The 1/4" -> XLR may or may not work optimally, depending on the specific amp and whether the 1/4" end is TS or TRS. You won't risk anything by trying it out, but it's not guaranteed to work ideally in all cases.

The 1/4 end..as stated will be the VT bass pedal .
Ahh..forgive my ignorance here.. whats TS / TRS ? I need to figure this all out before deciding on changing my setup


You said depending on the amp ... which makes me think different power amps react to 1/4 feeds into its XLR input differently ?

TS = mono unbalanced, with two wires connected (one black ring on the plug tip).
TRS = stereo or balanced, with three wires connected (two black rings on the plug tip).
XLR has three wires.

It will probably work fine, but on the off chance it doesn't then you'd probably just need to modify the cable a bit, or get a cable that is wired slightly differently.

I gotcha !! Thanks for elaborating.

My mentality over the years had led me to the following terms ...

Instrument Cables and Speaker Cables... without the finer details being relevant ( up until recently of course ).
