MIJ Fender Precision question

I'm a novice at this, so hopefully this is an acceptable place to post this question. I have a chance to get a Precision bass. The owner says its a 1986 MIJ and the serial number would seem to confirm that. The question is "Did they have both P and J pick-up combinations?". I have another from that time frame with just the Precision pick-up. Any "Googling" I've done also shows only ones with the Precision pick-up. Is this the real deal or a mod of some type?

Whenever asking about a bass you really should post a picture so we know what you're talking about but I think if I'm deciphering your post accurately you may be referring to a Fender Jazz Bass Special.

Precision body shape. Precision decal w/ serial number on headstock. Chrome pick-up and bridge covers. Three control knobs, as opposed to just two on my other Pbass.

nice looking bass, but $850 seems steep, id pay $500, I got my 95 MIJ, with hard shell case for $400

I disagree. It is worth it if the J pickup is stock. A reputable store nearby recently had a 1985-1986 MIJ P for sale; the price was $795 or $799. It was a little beat up, too.

Mid 80's japan P-Basses are really great! This one with the Jazz pickup is worth that price!
