i like that stuff better too, but there really is some good stuff on the new albums, but there's a lot of not so good stuff too. Nuclear Family and Stay The Night are probably my favorites from the trilogy

I remember reading an interview where he said that he deliberately dumbed down his playing on American Idiot (and, in my opinion, subsequent releases) in order to better serve the song. I personally liked it the other way. Billie Joe hammering away on these big distorted power chords and Mike doing some really interesting playing underneath. I'm thinking specifically of "Welcome to Paradise"
That analogy only works if he said all basses are bad. A more appropriate example would have been if you'd had a bad meat lovers pizza from Little Caesar's, then all meat lovers pizza from Little Caesars is bad...

i know it's late, but Warning was released 15 years ago today (oct 3). i remember i was actually able to buy it on the 2nd at my local music store and i thought it was really cool. they ended up producing the album themselves and the production actually sounds really tight, and i love the way the drums and bass sound, it was mixed really well. i was 14 when this album came out and it was when i was just learning bass. the kid that i started my first band with had a jam session once with this drummer who found us online some how and we spent one saturday afternoon in feb or march of 2001 practicing a cover of Minority. i remember the poopie eating grin my dad had on his face when we played it for him when he came to pick us up.
After hearing 86 and Brain Stew I feel a need to check out Insomniac, but it's not on Spotify, and that's where I do my music listening.
"No One Knows" from Kerplunk is one of the great unsung bass intros. I cut my teeth on the pre-Dookie albums, especially songs like "I Was There" and "One For The Razorbacks". Great stuff.
Hell yeah! No-one Knows is a phenomenal song, as are most of the songs on Kerplunk. Especially Holden Caulfield. Want a #?
I also love the 3/4 feel on "Rest" from 39/Smooth. That old stuff was so awesome!!
