If you've only ever listened to Green Day's albums post-Warning, you'll know Mike as a simple, boring, root-note oriented player with little to no talent. If you've ever listened to Kerplunk, Dookie and Insomniac, you'll know that he is actually an incredibly talented player who makes brilliant hooky basslines on every song! So here's to appreciating Green Day's G3 weilding, bass smashing Mike Dirnt!

Im not really into GD or pop punk in general, but from what Ive heard he sounds like a decent player who gets the job done.

I do however absolutely love his signature basses and own both the Squier & Fender versions.
I am going to sell the Fender even though its the best sounding bass Ive ever owned (59 CS pickup).

Im selling it because
I mostly play fretless these days
Its pretty heavy and I have a bad back
I will be able to sell it for what I paid for it which will offset the cost of the fretless I am putting together.

Im keeping the Squier because
I love it
It sounds great (not as good as the Fender though)
Its very light
I wouldnt get anything for it anyway

Cool! The G3 is better than the P bass to me, but Precisions are badass too! I own the Squier sig in white w/ tortguard and I don't really like it. Anyway, want a number in the fan club or not?

By the way which one's the Squier and which one's the Fender?

Wanted to pop in and say how much I have enjoyed his basslines over the years. Ever since I first heard longview, she and when I come around back in high school I have been hooked. He is a great player that has learned over the years that it's about writing what will support the song

I think Mike's playing, especially on the records OP mentioned, is just about a perfect example of enhancing a song without overpowering it. Those little three-or-four-note riffs before a chord change wouldn't blow anyone away as far as technique goes, but they're a big part of what makes those songs so catchy.

For any Dirnt fans who didn't know this - Mike played on Screeching Weasel's "How to Make Enemies and Irritate People" and I highly recommend checking it out.

I started playing bass because of Longview. I started playing with a pick when I realized he did while I was learning my very first song, American Idiot.

Is this a bass model club, or a fun club? I don't own a signature (would totally get it if it had a maple fretboard) but I'm a huge fan.
