Mike Dirnt or Mark Hoppus?

I like the Hoppus signature bass more than the Dirnt. I really liked Green Day when I was in elementary school and won't immediately change the station if a Green Day song comes on the radio like I would with Blink 182. After tallying points, it's a tie. "No, thank you" to both for me.

Neither for the most part i avoid "artist" model anything; it seems like having a big star splash sticker "As Seen On TV" on my headstock.
And yes the goes for -- gasp-- the Geddy Lee model too.

on the other hand i like a jazz body with a precision pickup
Blacktop Jazz

There is a Mark Hoppus bass on my local Craigslist. Seller first listed at $600. Currently seller has it for $400. I like the weight of a Jazz but I hate the neck. This could be the thing I am looking for. Hey, like I need another bass like I need another hole in my head. Things that make you go Hmmmmm . . . .

Care to elaborate? I haven't known one to be much more nice, or much more rude, than the other.

Didn't mean much by it. Green Day always seemed pretentious and stuck up to me. Hoppus seems like fun. Maybe I'm wrong. Would much rather be playing a Green Day bass line than Blink 182, though.

I play both in my band and I think the Greenday bass lines are more challenging and the Blink bass lines are more fun.

The most challenging for me are the Nirvana basslines. Some very odd progressions and timings.

As a musician? Dirnt.

As a person? Hoppus.

Both seem like genuinely nice guys, but I get the "as a person? Hoppus" he's quite funny. His stage banter, his (tragically short) TV show, his tweets, his podcast, ever seen that "bassists look bored" video he did with College Humor a few years ago?

Big Hoppus fanboy here, so obviously my vote goes to him. He may not tear it up like Geddy Lee, but he's always got a solid bass part and one of the best P tones out there. Don't like Green Day or Mike Dirnt's style anyways.

I love Blink 182 banter. I have most definitely stolen "if you don't like this song we're playing it twice."

Dirnt is clearly the better player (although from what I hear on the radio, his work from American Idiot on has gone downhill).

Of course, I'm not a fan of that subgenre altogether.
