Mike Gordon - 3.6.09

Mike definitely rocks lots of meatball, lots of akai deep impact. He's got crazy control over his effects with the bradshaw buttons. I've seen him using OC-2 + Tubescream + Meatball for some synth sounds, obviously the akai deep impact is great for the synth sound. I know he's got more than 1 synth sounds, and I'm sure he's mixing many effects in with a dry tone to get some of his tones.

I'm sure he gets some of his synth tones straight from one box only, like the akai. Then I bet he also gets other synth tones by using an octaver, filter, distortion pedal combination. He's pretty much got it all.

I could be wrong but I think those cabs were custom built for him by a guy that custom built cabs for phil lesh but they could be meyer either way. He still has a Eden 2x10 cab up there but from the tone Im not sure where the eden comes in maybe just for the on stage speakers nothing DI though. If you are looking for mike tone dont start with the eden. His new rig is very much like Phil Lesh's late 80's rig 12 or 10 top cabs and huge 2x18s with mega watts. It sounds better than the Eden yamaha meyer setup from 03. Plus the TBX has a killer tone compaired to the bolt on. Thats what I know

Let me start off by saying that the list is wrong, first off the Modulus TBX is not new he has had it since 94ish and just never used it live, they are no longer made. Mike never used two eden 410XLT cabs just one SXT and it was before then were released to the public. The other cab on the 18s in 2003 was a yamaha PA speaker which my have been for a MON mix. You can clearly see the speaker setup is new. I can tell by the cab that the sub cab is not the same meyer cab he was using. I saw them this fall and he has two new top cabs just like phil used when jamming with phish a few years back plus the subs. Other than that the effects are all the same plus a new evantide. Also mike has a easy botton that makes a strange sound. Trey is back to his hand built 2x12 cabs and using fender stage master heads plus the ross compressor and a bruno cab set center of the 2x12 cabs that he runs his sampler thorugh.

I may be confusing it w/ another of Mike's basses, but didn't Modulus make Mike his TBX in a limited run when Phil Lesh got his last last bass from them? if i recall, Modulus made a 6er for Phil and David Schools, and they made a 5er for Mike.
