Thanks for the visit.

I have visited the Instruction forum a number of times and enjoy seeing the questions and reading the responses. I have also offered a few comments (posts) where I thought I had some expertese and could be of some help.

As for the "lively debate", I'm not quite ready for that. After 30 years of playing and teaching I am rather opinionated.

Thanks for the welcome Eric.

Actually I have become more tolerant over the years. I really appreciate the love, desire, effort, and dedication good musicians show toward their craft.

I am also quite fortunate in that I am able to teach only students who are willing to put forth the effort it takes to become accomplished musicains. This reenergizes my soul and makes my job easier.

I am very excited about the second half of my career.

Yeah it would be really nice to have students that really wanted to learn instead of asking things like how fast do you think it will take me to learn some blink 182 song! I have ten students and 3 are serious! I find that even though i have played ten times as long as them i still end up learning from them in the end! The other day a guy about 23 that has played for 6 years came in and showed me what he learned from old victor wooten in some movie how he double thumbs the string to add twice the power! Its kinda cool to have that happen!

The bass I played at the Phish concert is an Alembic. I forget the model.

Although I do teach at Berklee, Mike took lessons for a number of years at my house. Contrary to some rumors, Mike did not attend Berklee.

I was Mike's only teacher and he has been kind enough to give me much credit.

Man, I can't tell you how much respect I have for you. I really admire Mike's style and sense of orchestration.

Sorry again for the blatant suckup, but the praise is very much deserved.

Eric, Some other bands you might want to check out: The Slip, Kritters Buggin', John Scofield Band,
Lake Trout, Charlie Hunter, Keller Williams (If you dig DMB, you'll flip over Keller) The Living Daylights, The Disco Biscuits, You probably know SCI, Soulive, Fat Mama, There are a whole world of bands that are worth mention. Check out Invalid Link Removed

are the two books that I wrote over a couple of years of writing out material for Mike's lessons.

I had been teaching for a number of years at that time and was not satisfied with the materials availabe so I began to write my own books.

I hear quite a few recordings of new bands that my students at school play for me. I teach a couple of Arranging classes where I encourage the students to bring in their favorite CD and I transcribe some of the bass and drums for them so we can analyze it.

I have a very hard time remembering the names of the bands or players. I generally don't go out and buy cds myself although I listen to the radio alot.

A couple of names of bands / bassists that I can recall are: Finger Eleven, Tom Jenkins, Roachford, Greasy Meal.

Just last week a young student played me a CD of an exceptional bassist! ?????. My student says this guy plays alot of gospel and I was hearing his first solo debut. It was the best (funk / jazz) bass playing I've heard in a long time. I asked to have a copy for next week.

I do like Dave Mathews Band and I have a long time student who plays in a very popular DMB tribute band called The Tripping Billies.

Hey 6-stringer thanks so much man! Were i live its really hard to here of new bands! Its very void of anything new or cool here! I play in a funk jazz jam band and we have to drive over 100 miles to play gigs because no-one around here would understand it! So we have to go to springfild mo and kansas city , tulsa all the time to play! But thanks man any time you here of a new band just tell me!

No problem man. If you're into the funk-jazz thing, buy John Scofield's newest album "Uberjam". The playing on that CD is phenomenal. And, If you have'nt allready heared Galactic, They are THE funk band. Go buy "We Love em' Tonight" ASAP.
I have an extensive collection of bootlegs. I would be happy to copy some CDs for you. There is a lot of stuff you should hear. Just shoot me an email.

I'm sorry, but I had to bring this back up...

Where have you fellas been all my TB life?!?!
I searched "band names" because I was looking for what other people had for band name ideas, and I somehow stumbled upon a thread on Gordon who happens to be my favorite bassist also due to the fact that Phish is my favorite band. I have posted about jam bands in the past, but havent heard from any of you fellas. I just wanted to say "hey", and let you guys know that there's another avid "jam band" fan on TB. Additionaly, I'd like to give unmatched amounts of thanks to Jim Stinnett for showing Gordon the way...idk what exactly you did, but whatever it was, I thank you for it. I'm still counting the days they've been on hiatus for...I can't wait much longer for their return.

ANyways, I just wanted to say "hi", "thanks", and if anyone wants to chat or talk about good tunes, feel free to IM me or post on TB...i'd love to discuss music with you fellas.
