My question is, how did the languedoc get stolen...it boggles the mind. And who would do such a thing?
Personally, I prefer the Modulus tone. But, hey. Yea, who would steal a bass from a struggling musician? (it got stolen in about 91' if i'm correct) Some people.
I'm not sure when the languedoc was stolen, but I know there are 2 languedoc basses. The first one made was the one stolen. I believe he switched to the modulus around 98 or 99...but I thought he was using the languedoc during their touring in 97...
But again, who in their right mind would steal that bass from gordo?? Such a shame....

The Dragon Bass : An earlier Languedoc bass was stolen a few years ago, but was used from circa 1987 through mid-1997. Simpler than the Modulus, it had five strings "with an inlay of an asian-style dragon in mother of pearl on the headstock. It also has Paul Languedoc's name inlaid into it. It looks like the Languedoc bass that Mike is still using." (Shelly Culbertson; thanks also to Matt Laurence.) "Named for its intricate headstock inlay, the Dragon bass (built in 1989) has a five-piece curly-maple neck and a bound ebony fingerboard. The body is solid koa, with a face of curly-maple veneer. The bridge and tuning machines were made by Schaller. Mike custom-ordered the instrument's active, 18-volt Mørch pickups from Denmark; they came with myriad knobs and switches Mike didn't really want. "I have trouble making decisions," he says. "I probably change my instrument settings only every two years." The three larger knobs on the bass control volume (one per pickup) and pickup blend; the four micro-switches and three smaller knobs are for various midrange contours and high and low boosts. (Languedoc comments, "Even I don't know what they all do!") ... Mike and Paul both call the Fish--also named for its inlays--"a bit of an experiment." The bass, which was built about two years ago, has a two-piece curly-maple body with an interior chamber, a koa face with an f-hole and multiple-layered binding, and only one knob, which blends between the two EMG ASB-5 pickups. Mike eventually wants to add a piezo bridge transducer to accentuate the highs of the instrument's hollow body." iam seeing the frogs and moe in june cant wait.i just ot in to moe and really like jam bands but dont know what else to listen to.i heard othere jam bands that are liek oyrsterhead and i really liek that typ of stuff to.

Who ever hasnt yet should check out wide spread panic! Another good jam band! Kinda reminds me if you slammed phish into allman brothers! Great phish mood with southern georgia ideas! Great stuff! dont tell the band is a great cd!
Just a little update for those of us waiting in the wings for the boys to tour again. Trey has been eluding more and more for a while that he's interested in playing with phish again. Last week in a radio interview, he started hinting around that they might do some split dates with the Trey band this fall. Straight from the horses mouth. Who knows, maybe he's just screwing with our minds. Sure would be nice to see Phish again. Keep your fingers crossed.

6-Stringer: I think he's *somewhat* messing with our heads. He intimated similar things on a station here, but you never know what to believe.
I spoke with a guy who spoke with Trey's sound guy who was spouting all sorts of stuff about the fact that they'll be getting back together "sooner rather than later" due to the fact that Page and Mike are now "broke" and that their sound will be radically different.
In the end, it's all BS and conjecture, regardless of who says it. Call me a cynic, but I won't believe anything until it arrives via mail order.
As for Widespread Panic, I've seen them more times than I care to remember. I'm actually taking this year off because, well, I need a break. Don't Tell The Band was, in my opinion, a poor CD - their worst yet. Plus, people are finally starting to figure out just how limited Hauser is on guitar. Listen to his leads - they are all the same! It's almost as if the band has to sink down into the same tonal and rhythmic pocket each time he's ready to do one of his 4-note sustain leads. Yawn.
The rest of the band, however, is great! They would do well to showcase Schools ( a GREAT player!!!) and the keyboard player more, though.

Just a suggestion, I would suggest not taking the year off if you really like panic, cuz I'm not sure if you've heard, but there's been rumor going around for months that houser has pancreatic cancer. I guess thats why he's been unable to do a few shows throughout. Again, thats all rumor and word of mouth, but I'm not taking any chances. I HOPE it's not my last time seeing them this summer, but if it is and i miss it, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.
Also, whoever was asking about other jam type bands, here's a few to check out. String Cheese Incident, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Galactic, Umphrey's Mcgee...
And my personal favorite band that is touring right now (cuz of course it would be phish but...hiatus...enough said) is The Big Wu. Some people dig them, some don't, but I've seen them prolly around 12 or 13 times in the past year, and they just have somehting special in my opinion....

hey i know im a bit late stumbling into reading this thread but im definitely glad to see that you guys do exist on here and are diggin this kind of music bc i usually only see people talking hardcore and punk on here... id like to give a link to my band's mp3 site to you guys since you are the people we are hoping to reach in the near future. we are struggling in the fact that weve only been a band for a little over a year and are all still in school..check us out and id love to here your thoughts...Mike
