I'm really having a hard time today with the news of his passing. Everyone who knows me knows what a huge Toto fanatic I am and I feel so sorry for the Porcaro family to have lost another and for Luke and Paich to have lost a brother as well.

Yes I read this last night on my phone alert from "For Bass players only" at the gig last night sad.
I dug up a thread I posted about 7 or 8 years ago after seeing TOTO play. This was a year or two before the ALS diagnosis came through. My wife and I knew something was wrong but we had no idea how severe it would turn out to be. Watching him play through the pain was really heartbreaking. Especially with both of his thumbs wrapped up in some sort of immobilizing brace...I spent some time online trying to figure out what sort of orthopedic support they might be providing him. Just the saddest thing ever.

Mike Porcaro was one of those genuine and real master of the groove. Two weeks ago I taught Toto´s "Mindfield" tune groove in my bassclass, which is great example musical, grooving and insightful bass playing of Mike Porcaro. But this ... it is so sad news. My deepest sympathy for his family.
His playing was very tasteful and just right in the pocket. Found out about Fbass and the Peavy Cirrus from watching many videos featuring Mike. Such an inspiration and a terrible disease that took him too young.
RIP Mike Porcaro..my dad passed away from the similar disease MND in 2011..its a terrible tragic disease..
