MIM 2006 Fender P Specs?

There were some spec sheets that did report this model as having American series pups (there was no such thing as an American Standard at that time), but to the best of my memory, that MAY have been in error, and despite I have read many comments from owners to the same, this model should have had a MIM Standard series pickup ...

... the differences as noted above, would be color and the commemorative neckplate, but also it came with a more heavily tinted neck and headstock than the other MIM Standards of the time, and also a Diamond Anniversary commemorative logo'd gig bag ... I have seen a few of these for sale over the years, but only one was complete with the commemorative gig bag (Diamond Anniv logo on front pouch if I remember correctly), and the original 'sticker' that was on the pickguard in a diamond shape with 60 on it ...

Edit to add: ... the only thing I had in my file on this was the part# (Model Number: 14-6102-355), but I know I had more at one time ... I will look when I get some time tomorrow and see if I can find anything else

Ok, I didn't have access to my other files right now, but grabbed my '06 Frontline, and in there, it indeed does list the MIM Diamond Anniv Standard P having American Series split-single coil pup ... mentions the tinted neck, neck plate and commemorative bag also .. the stock # I gave above was accurate

as big and detailed as a telephone numbers list!

Precision jr I presented my only son (he's two years old today)
comes from 2006 with a diamond lil' logo behind its headstock.

I modded it a with DiMarzio ModelP (in split place) and a DiMarzio ModelOne at neck's like a small, tiny short scale Billy Sheehan Attitude.

By the way: '60th Fender Anniversary model had American series split on just like Reggie Hamilton's standard Jazz out those days as well

So the big question then, would you let go of a classic 50's P in a trade?

The other information to note, I already own a 2007 Mim standard P and a 2012 Mia standard P. I find that since getting my MIA, I rarely ever touch the 50's because of the wider neck. I have very small hands and find the difference annoying as I learn to play more complex lines.

I know the 50's is probably of higher value. What would you do?

Otherwise, the only one doublin' in your collection is the 2007 MIM standard

LOL so the mystery continues...Anyone out there can confirm if the pickups are American or not? I cant seem to find anything definitive.

Also, would it be safe to assume that if it does indeed have the american series pup, it would be the same pup thats in the 2005 classic 50's P?

I did some digging and found my notes from when this question was asked of me a few years back ...

... the part # bass I list above (14-6102-355), came stock with American Series pickups ... dealer specs may not note this, Fender spec is correct

Wally, the Classic Series 50's P does not use the same pickup as the American Series or the MIM Standard did ... it uses what Fender calls 'vintage alnicos' (MIM) ... different voicings and different part #'s

The MIM Standard pup should be a ceramic magnet, the pup in the 50's would be an alnico ... different animals, different voicings ... most would consider the American Series pup a 'step up', which would make sense as the reason Fender installed them in the MIM Diamond Anniv model .... but it all comes down to what you like ;)
