MIM Fender P Bass

... thats an interesting concept ... you might have just eliminated 50-60 % of TB members, and probably a fair number of them pay supporting membership fees to keep this site up and running so people have a format to state their opinions, like who should be allowed to write about the performance of basses ...
.. I notice the comment is present tense ... I guess that would rule out some of the old timers I know that got burnt out living/playing on the road for 15-20 years, as they haven't played in a 'real band' situation for over 20 years now ... could be a loss not hearing what they have learned ...
.. while we are at it, how about we classify what is a 'real' band situation ... need to play out maybe 3-4 times a month? .. release a CD a year? ... gig in the neighbors back yard every summer for their teen daughters birthday??... jam in your parents basement 2x a week with kids from school?
.. maybe we should have a screening process prior to allowing anyone to post their opinion .. oh wait!, we do in some ways... its called a profile ... if you like/dont like what someone posts, take a minute and check their profile ... a certain amount of credibility can be establised from a completed profile if the information is offered... after someone is on TB a while, most likely develop a sense of which comments/posters tend to be the most credible to a situation, and which simply repeat what they saw/heard what someone else had to say ... but that doesn't mean they aren't entitled to say it ... in 5-10 years, they may be the 'informed' one on here sharing info that others are learning from ...

One reason is $$$. Always a deciding factor in life. In my case I am just in love with my Road Worn Precision and when I have to record especially, that is what I take. I don't care where it is made because good...well is good! I have a 2013 American Standard Precision in sunburst/tort and I think it is near perfect in finish,fit etc but that Made in Mexico P (RW) is just better to me.

Recently I've played/check out several p basses MIM and to me they sound great. Better than the Fender USA standard en Vintage USA en the 50s classic MIM bases I've played.
I have two mim's. One is a 2000 and the other is a '98. I paid $200 for the 2000 and $225 for the '98 with an up graded bridge. The guy I bought it from said it's a Gotoh but I can't find anything on it to confirm that. Both play fine and sound great. I have played a couple of mia's that seemed to be a little better quality fit and finish but I really couldn't tell any difference in the sound. They were quite nice but since I live in the hot and humid in the summer and dry and cold in the winter East , I have to tweek the truss rods a few times a year and I find the mim's much more convenient to do that with. Both of the mim's had issues with the bridge screws coming out of adjustment but five minutes and a few drops of blue loctite solved that with no further problems. Would I pay 6 to 8 hundred dollars for a used one or 9 to 14 hundred dollars for a new one that pretty much do the same thing my mim's do? (Shhhhhhh.... be very quiet and you can probably hear laughing and farting noises in the background.)

I most play in my bedroom. No time to form a band or gig with people for me, especially since I'm 22 and I'm beginning the stage of saving up $$$ to move out and live on my own. No time as I have school, work, other commitments.
I'm sure you have plenty of time to play in "real bands" (whatever that means to you), but not everyone does.
As for gear, I play bass in my church team. My Geddy Lee jazz bass sounds exactly like it does when I plug it in at home and with headphones minus the natural reverb due to a room's structure and size.
Rotosounds make it snappier regardless of where I play it and how I play it. No big difference except, like I said, the reverb of the room in which you are playing.
Not everyone on TB are professionals or gigging local musicians. Please reconsider your statement. At best, edit it so you don't sound like a pretentious prick.
yes and no... they've got more credibilty in some respect, but in the end it depends on what they're "Band" sintuation is... Are they Dave Hungate, studio musician with 1000 recording credits with legendary bands? or are they some random kid in a speed metal band that recorded their own album and are now a self proclaimed "Band"?
I know some full amateurs who've never gone on tour and/or played in paying band gigs who are excellent musicians and quite discerning when it comes to music and instruments.. I think it's just too simple to state it as you did.

To a point. The difference that I've experienced is that, like most anything else, the long term quality shows through a bit more from USA downward.
Ditto...price...I can get a bass that plays great and sounds great for much less. Especially when bought used...That being said, I'd love to save up for a Fender Select P-Bass, with the flame maple top. That is one sharp looking bass...

Yesterday I went to another store, a bass guitar store, and tried several Fender precisions. The two I'd liked the most were the Fender Road Worn and the USA Standard. Both different basses, different sounds, different necks. I've chosen for the American standard because that bass is more bass to me. Very nice neck and playability, and a deeper, warmer sound than the Road Worn. The other MIMs I've checked sounds and played way less than these two.
I agree. I have a bunhc of Fenders from USA, Japan and MIM. My Mexis get all the play time. They are just classic fenders. And honestly they are one of the best values out there.
My new 2014 MIM Candy Apple Red Precision. Got it brand new at for only $365. I couldn't pass it up. It sounds pretty great. I have already ordered a set of TI Flats.
That is one of my favourite colours! Congrats! Are you thinking of any changes or mods?
