Sorry up front for the long winded post, but I gotta tell someone.
So I started playing bass about 7 months ago because my brothers band needed a bass player. I had played guitar most of my life so I felt I could make the transition. I had always had, and enjoyed, "good value" guitars (epiphone, LTD, cheap Ibanez) so when I went looking for a bass I ended up gravitating to that range of bass. My first bass was a ltd fb-204 ($399) and I loved it.
Shortly after starting to play I found talk bass. Not a bad thing but you people cause GAS like nobody's business. Anyway I got my tax refund and said "I need another bass." Looked online and found the ltd stream which looks amazing and is different enough from my other bass that I decided I needed it. Went to my local GC and got to play one, that was it I was sold. Paid the $545 after tax and they ordered me one in the color I wanted.
WELL... my brother was with me and he was trying out guitars, and pedals, and what have you. I was playing with the basses. I played every thunderbird (which I hated) LTD, Ibanez... metal... I like metal music, I want my bass to look metal. My brother comes over and tells me to play this one bass because he thinks it looks good. It's a Fender. I had never played a Fender bass. I had a mexican't strat once that put a bad taste in my mouth. I started playing and HOLY MOTHER!!! What is this magical contraption?
I have always thought "well they are all guitars. I can play a $300 epiphone as well as he is playing his 3k Gipson." NOPE NOPE NOPE. The LTDs were not in the same ballpark as this thing. Not the same league. Not even the same game. Went to the counter and told them never mind about the stream I want this. Put it on layaway, took my original bass up there and traded it in. So $500 out of pocket and my original bass got me an American Fender Honeyburst P-Bass and I couldn't be more thrilled. It looks amazing and plays even better. I am over the freaking moon. By far the finest instrument I've ever owned.
