Mini Rigs of Doom Four

You might try one of fdeck's high pass filter units (HPF); it does a great job of filtering out un-needed sub bass to keep your speaker from jumping out of the box like that.....

Hi Chef, I assume you were talking about my Workingman's 10? Yeah, I suppose I could try something lke that, however, if I need to get that loud I just use one of my other rigs. The MB200/210XL isn't that much more to carry. As long as you keep the volume reasonable, the SWR sounds great. I originally used the 210XL as an extension for the SWR. I stacked them vertically. Problem there was the SWR 10 lost it long before the 210XL. At that point I was looking for solutions (upgrade speaker, etc) but then I had a little extra cash so I picked up the GK MB200 head.

My main rig years ago was a GK400RB with a Peavey 1810, so any of these seem like feathers in comparison:D

I don't think I've ever posted, so I've got a couple mini rigs I'll throw in!

5sg.

Shuttle 6 / Avatar B210 Neo
(I didn't realize how old this pic was until I saw my board. Still have the rig, but that board is like eleventy hundred versions ago. lol)

Epiphone Valve Jr. with an Ampeg PF115
(not super loud of course, but a great grindy rock tone)

And this one probably doesn't count since the amp weighs 62lbs., but it's only 100 watts and OMG tube tone for DAAAAYYYSSS...

I think my new DIY rig qualifies for the club. I've used it at two gigs now. One indoors in a club and one outdoors. It sounded great in both scenarios, and when placed on the side of the stage, it's much more FOH friendly than my 2x10/1x15 behemoth I was hauling around. The new one is a 2x12 floor wedge, weighs in at 42 pounds and is a breeze to carry. Plenty of bottom & plenty of punch. I put feet on the back as well, so if the stage is really small, it can fire almost straight up.

Nice!

Although, at first glance, it looks like a cheap car sub ;)

What kind of speakers are in there? Tuning frequency?

Yes it does! Keeps the uneducated away! They're Eminence drivers, Delta 12 LFA's. 44 to 3 is their range. I'm not a fan of tweeters in bass amps and I play a P with flats, so the tone works for me, probably not for a lot of the newer guys into distortion or the "Scoopy McSlaperstein" guys out there, to borrow a phrase from Jimmy M. I'm old school and I want my bass to sound like a bass. But hey, that's just my thing. I love Geddy, and it only took me about 25 years to figure out I wasn't him and my band wasn't Rush. I've been living happily ever after since I read Sundogue's post about being a flat wound convert...

Thanks for explaining! No need for tweeters here either, since I play Rock'n'Roll only. I'm alternating between flats and rounds to keep it interesting (plus hybrid and synthetic strings on the DB).

Couldn't have said it better! Neat looking idea, JSK5String. :)

I've shown up to gigs with my GB Streamliner 900 and a single Ampeg SVT210HE before, and had the FOH guys look at me like, "really?"

Their tune changes dramatically when I plug the little bastard in and fire it up!

Another funny MROD anecdote: I played a gig in a 2000 capacity room not too long ago. My band was the opener, and we were sharing some backline elements with the headliner. Their bassist offered up his 2000w dual-8x10 rig for me. I politely declined in favor of my GB and 2xSVT210HEs. After our set, he informed me that his rig is now for sale.
