Misheard lyric

We're the young generation, and we've got Saddam Hussein.

- The Monkees

Ooh, that reminds me: When I was a wee pre-teen and The Monkees' television show was on the air, I always thought the first couplet of the chorus to their theme song
-- where they actually sing "Hey hey we're The Monkees, and people say we monkey around" --
was "Hey hey we're The Monkees, the beep smacking monkeys around"

...not that I thought that sentence meant anything.

I remember, as a small child, singing with great gusto: puppy love (instead of "buy me love").
I'm sure that the adults were highly amused but I probably thought they were enjoying my singing.
I could use the tiny speaker as an excuse if not for the extremely expert guidance we have about speaker size (but I digress again).

the walrus's paw

hold you in his armchair (Already cited. Just didn't want that poster to feel alone. :) )

EDIT: I'm not the only person who heard this, but it wasn't mentioned in this thread yet.

Well my heart went boom,
as I crossed that room,
and I held her hand in Hawaiiiiiiii!

My excuse this time: Elvis made three movies set in Hawaii at around this time, and I was confused.

Traffic - Shootout at the Fantasy Factory - (Sometimes I Feel So) Uninspired:

Some people want to be so desired...
Some people can't stand the light of day...
Someone is laughing,
while someone is crying...
Old folks are washing the clothes of the dead.

Should have been "watching the close of the day". My excuse: The album had some other references to mysterious and/or ancient things, and I thought this was referring to some ritual treatment of the deceased.
The brain is a world of wonder, eh? :-) I was "high on life", as they used to say? :-)

Incidentally, thank you to bassist David Hood.

There is actually an AC/DC cover band called the Dunder Sheep.

One of my favorites – a friend of mine was playing the soundtrack from Hair with his 4 year old in the car and the kid starts cracking up. My friend asks him what's so funny? "That song! This is a drawing of the ancient asparagus?!"

Still nothing beats The Rectum of Ella Fitzgerald. Puts a pretty different spin on the whole song.

While backing a singer doing "Shout", one backup singer and myself would sing "sh1t" in the bracketed parts:

You know you make me wanna (Shout!)
Kick my heels up and (Shout!)
Throw my hands up and (Shout!)
Throw my head back and (Shout!)
Come on now (Shout!)

It would tick off our (great) female singer, but I'm pretty sure the audience never caught on. The third backup voice always sang "shout", probably enough to mask us two miscreants.

Misheard? By whom?

In the meadow we will build a snowman
We'll pretend that he is parched and brown

What I heard when I was a kid. And because I only heard the song an Christmas time ( it was the 50s, they didn't start playing Christmas songs untill December), it was years till I heard it right.
