Mixed driver cabs

man, that's some weird stuff!

that "bad cab" looks like it's at least another pair of tens taller than an SVT cab!

they have a 2x12 and 2x10 in one box cab, where you can switch off either pair; they're diagonally mounted, so i doubt they're sealed off from each other, and anyway it's a vented cab.

my question is, what happens when you run it with two speakers off, are the dead drivers still in the mix as passive radiators throwing off the cab behavior?

A lot of companies make or have made cabs with different size speakers wether they have crossovers or not. I think the more productive thing would be for those who have or had these cabs to give their opinion about said cab. Not you can't reach warp 9 without a crossover made from alien technology and speakers that require power like the time machine from back to the future. I got a job and a band. I'm not interested in build cabs.

Me personally I'm interested in a greenboy cab but don't know if i should get a 12/12/6, or a 15/15/6 or two smaller cabs. Why because while thu get great reviews and all I've yet to see a volume output comparison to some cabs everyone knows. For example I've had ampeg 410he, 410hlf, 610hlf, and 810e. Which greenboy cab compares to which ampeg cab as far as volume before distortion? These are questions i have. Because i don't want to spend $1600 on a greenboy cab to ind out its not loud enough or it is overkill.

I can think of a lot of companies that made cabs with different speakers. Swr had the triad, peavey has made 18/210 and a 15/210 if I'm not mistaken, avatar makes a 15/3 or something like that, carbons made them, Mesa, and so on.

you're glossing over the key detail, that "crossed over" means the different speakers are not mixing.

some 12s and 10s going at the same time has nothing to do with say a 15" plus a 6" midrange, each only covering their own sonic turf.

Bergantino HT322 was 210 + 112 + horn. One of the best sounding $1.2k 110 lb cabs ever made. No snark intended. State of the art in 2002. No x-over between 210s and the 112. Horn has x-over, of course. 4 ohms, IIRC.

Divided cabinet with individual ports + "enclosed" horn. Careful driver matching.

There have been various discussions of this, but IMHO and IME, a 15/6 is at least equal to a good 410. A 1515/66 exceeds a good 810. All this depends on your EQ demands. Honestly, I get more CLEAN low end out of a single 15/6 than I could from any 410 I've used.

What do you use now? if you use an 810, get a 1515/66. Otherwise, get a 15/6. You can get a 15sub or another 15/6 if you REALLY need it. There are other configurations. BTW, I have never spent more than ~$750 on a used fEARful, and it was built by a master craftsman. I now have several, but that is because I go to different places at different times of the year.

I have occasionally used 15/6/1 + 15/1/6 or 15/6/1 + 15sub. A little overkill perhaps, but then, I play a lot of reggae.

so the 12 is chambered off from the two 10s? i guess if so, and if each "side" was spec'ed and tuned to resonate close to the same it would make reasonable sense; still, looks to me like it's the same size as a 4x10, so i'm not sure what the advantage was.
