Yeah. Most everyone in Seattle figured that was all just posturing how they handled him this season.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Sure, it's cool to return to your home country playing for an MLB team. But in reality, he didn't really play last season and is no longer a meaningful contributor.
The Mariners have some work to do to be competitive, and holding open a roster spot for a dog and pony show in Japan kinda shows to me where the front office is going.

They discussed this when he came off the active roster - that's why he didn't retire. Apparently he has been working with the other players all year, and probably could have caught on with another team if he wanted. He's HOF worthy in both countries. I think this is a great thing. He can go out in style, in front of his home country, and then retire.

Go Cubs! But hell, the way they’ve been hitting yesterday and today, they’re going to have to keep the Rockies scoreless for another 4-5 innings before Chicago can scrape up another run.

By the way, for those who can't take ARod and the rest of the accouncers, go to ESPN2. They have a second broadcast called Statcast. More graphically (3d pitchtracker and such) and numbers intense, about which I don't care, but better announcers.

I might have rather had the Cubs at Miller Park given they seemed sort of pooped out and spent. Rockies are going to be tough. They've been solid all year.

Agreed. Cubs played 42 games in 43 days. It still doesn't excuse their offensive futility, but they really needed to win the division outright and get three days of rest.

This series will be interesting, solid power hitters and great bullpens on both sides.

Braves had 3 daze off since (I don’t know...the All Star break?!)...And one of those got sideswiped by a make-up game with Cubs a couple of weeks ago!
These extra days off have been precious.

Charlie Culberson in for Dansby Swanson...I’ll take that deal.

Make no mistake...I’m not expecting the Braves to host a parade down Peachtree Street...not enough pitching...the Walks will be their undoing...

I’d be very happy if they give the Trollydodgers hell...short series built for a team like the Braves: short on pitching.

Again, IMO how it should be - there is a big advantage to winning the division. Brewers are going to be in the same condition.

Solid. Theo confirmed he'll be back. I heard the rumors, but I thought they were nuts. Yes, he's managing a very talented roster, but the Cubs have won more games over Maddon's four seasons than any other team. And then there's that whole ending-the-108-year drought thing.

I'll be surprised if they retain Chili Davis as the hitting coach, though.
