As for standards, they've changed before--it was just a couple years ago that the unfortunate era of the All-Star game outcome determining home field advantage in the World Series finally came to a well-deserved end.

I got you (and as a fan I've been through this before). But the first determination is overall record, as it should be. The Cubs had a better record that the Brewers in head to head, which is why they hosted today's game.

The All-Star Game deciding home field in the World Series was one of the worst ideas in all of sports. And why did they do that? Because of a tie. Oh the horror! An exhibition game ended in a tie. That was a great game, there were many highlights, but all anybody remembers is that it ended in a tie and that was bad.

I wish that it would go back to alternating years, but I'm ok with regular season records deciding that. Anybody know who gets home field if they have the same record?

It was more than that - it was getting as bad as the Pro Bowl - players were playing their two innings, and the leaving the stadium. At least now they seem to be trying. But inter league every day spoiled part of the fun.

World Series tie breaker is head to head, then division record.

And that is the beauty of sports - you have to play, and nothing is guaranteed. You set standards, and then play by them. If not, why have playoffs - just give the championship to the team with the best record. Even better, no reason to play a season - just go by the predictions at the start of the season.

I've got no horse in this race - I cheer for the Mets and the Diamondbacks, in that order. But it will be fun...
