MLB 2022

Today I Learned…

Man, it's so cool that one man could start a brushfire like that. And the best part is that it caught on quickly. Today everything is negative. We're all arguing about what we DON'T like. That was just something positive. And everyone positively got onboard. Honoring what is/was great.... We need more of that rather than bashing what (in our individual views) is bad.

That's a great observation.

In today's world, we constantly let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Anyone with the slightest blemish on their record is cast out from the list of "great". Their memory is scorned. This is all too common. We have lost our ability to see that life is challenging and good people aren't necessarily perfect; they make mistakes. That is not a reason to refuse to acknowledge them.

Well stated.

From what I am hearing, teams are waiting on the Collective Agreement to be completed before they really start to sign free agents. Without knowing the financial landscape, teams are hesitant to spend on premium free agents.
Fishheadjoe
Which means there's going to be a mad scramble when whatever happens finally happens.

The Kid was, and still is an amazing human. We are incredibly lucky to have him as a part of the Mariners' ownership group now.

I don't know how many, if any, other former players are part owners of the teams they played for.

A couple of things my S.F. Giants found out at the end of last year was that they have an emerging staff ace in young Logan Webb, as well as a closer in Camilo Doval. As far as the rest of the staff, that is up in the air as the very good staff they had was put together from one year contract signings. The front office is working on getting them mostly back. At the same time, we say goodbye to Johnny Cueto as the team declines to pick up his final year option.

First baseman Brandon Belt was one of the few potential free agents who accepted the team qualifying offer, so I am happy to have him for another year at least--pending a potential longer term deal beyond that.

Second year manager Gabe Kapler won N.L manager of the year for leading the Giants to a historic 107 win season. The vote was almost unanimous and obviously well deserved.

It will really seem strange without Posey behind the dish.

I'm sure like the other fans here, it's fun to see what pieces get added to improve our favorite teams.
The SFGiants also signed Desclafani and Alex Wood. Along with Webb that makes three good starters. Like you said, the big question is who will be the starting catcher. Is Joey Bart ready? There may not be another catcher like Posey in quite a while but Bart has potential.
Can the Giants continue to exceed expectations? The huge coaching staff and front officer are one of the best in the MLB that contribute to that. I have high hopes for the future.

I think Ken Rosenthal knows alotta stuff.

What's he talking about here?

The Mariners picked up Adam Fraizer for a couple prospects I don't know anything about. I guess second base is set and Abraham Toro will move over to third. Dipoto said the Mariners are in discussions with or have offers to a couple free agents. Another log into the stove, anyone?
I sure hope they're still looking to add a star infielder. They really need it. They have not upgraded the infield lineup nearly enough.

And pitching. They need at least one more reliable starter. The bullpen was smoke and mirrors last season, too. And the outfield wasn't as productive as it should have been. Is there anywhere without holes? The farm will produce, but how soon?

The (Red) Sox signed Wacha to a one-year deal. It'll be interesting to see if he stays healthy. He's got a gun when he's in good shape. But he's had his share of nagging injuries. I don't think he'll start much. Maybe Cora will try him as a starter in the Spring and see how it goes. But I would really like to see a good reliever made out if him. That would still leave one starting spot open though with E Rod gone.

Yeah, of course! Are you kidding? This time of year is for picking at scabs, revisiting the wounds of last season and jumping up and down on the couch demanding that everything be fixed RIGHT NOW! So of course that's what I'm doing.
