MLB 2024

So the cheating Astros are up to it again. You would think after their cheating 2017 season and then trash can banging World Series they would have learned. Just sayin.

Blanco didn’t know it was illegal to use rosin on hands, arms, gloves and balls.

His “ignorance” is not an excuse and he is serving a 10 game suspension.

and the “” are sarcastic air quotes because rosin is legal in MLB and rosin is from the league approved rosin bag.
It’s ok to hate the Stros if you want. Valdez did just fine. And used the same rosin. I’m a Braves fan anyway so it doesn’t hurt me when a Stros player is ejected. But when players get ejected for a legal and league approved product that is issued by a league approved vendor and labeled by MLB it’s a big ask for any fan of any team to trust the consistency of officiating.
If you want to ban rosin Ban Rosin. If you want to ban sweat and rosin don’t play in Texas.
But don’t go off calling someone a cheater for using league supplied equipment in a game.

The Giant finally beat the Dodgers. One out of three is not good but sometimes all you can do is be glad when your team gets a win. Had faith that the team was going to turn it around this year but that faith is starting to fade. It's still major league baseball and I enjoy it (but I enjoy it more when my team wins). Logan Web pitched great (no surprise there) but I am a little worried about him. He seems like he wants to carry the whole team and that is too much pressure for him. Unless he pitches a shut out he is hard on himself. Lighten up my friend, keep playing your game, I know the team is not scoring very many runs for you but just keep pitching how you are. He reminds me of Matt Cain another horse of a pitcher. He would pitch well and deep into any game he started but the team seldom provided him with a cushion of runs. He was able to accept that and just keep pitching his game. He even pitched a perfect game in 2012.
It almost chokes me to say this but hats of to the Dodgers they have put together a really good team. Are Betts, Ohtani, Muncy and Freeman the new murderers row?

Don't forget catcher Will Smith plus Teoscar Hernandez as he is an RBI machine. That said, the bottom of the lineup still needs some work to be more productive at batting. I think I recently heard that the Giants have like eight key players out on the IL list. Hopefully they will be able to recover soon and get back in the game and help bring the wins up.

You are automatically assuming Rosin? We don't even know what the actual substance that was used to get him ejected from the game. Pine Tar, a more recent product called "Spider Tack", plus others can be used. Either way, the umps have multiple seasons under their belts now checking each pitcher after pitching so I think they have the experience to know when something is not right.
BTW. Here is an informative video that explains the science of throwing a sticky ball and the advantages it gives.

And Andy Pages has been a pleasant surprise.

Spider Tack is banned by the league. No GM is going to allow that. Especially a team trying to get back from a slow start. Not worth the risk.
That said, anything that touches a sweaty hand and ball will get on the glove. 90% humidity in Houston. Just saying. I’m fine with the league banning rosin if they want. But don’t ban it for just one guy on just one team. That’s where I draw the line between regulation and subjectivity.

Yup, the biggest losses are Lee in center field, Conforto in left field and Bailey behind the plate. Lee is out with a dislocated shoulder and there is not time table yet for his retrun. Fitzgerld was out for concussion protocall and then he was experiencing "flu like symptoms." He is expected back later this month. Bailey is no Buster Posey yet but he is the best Giant catcher since Posey. He is a great catcher and his hitting is really improving. He is expected back at the end of May. Conforto was leading the team with seven home runs before he went down with a hamstring pull. Lee and Conforto are also missed for their defense in the outfield. Others are more... Meh. Soler was supposed to be our new big bat but has mostly struck out with men in scoring position. He might be back today. Blake Snell has been more of a liability than an asset, hope he turns things around and goes back to Cy Young form but has shown no sign of that so far he is due back soon. I won't go down the whole list but those are what stand out to me.
