MLB 2024

So I turned off my laptop to finish a few other buildings with the Cruds down 6-4 after 8. Came back to find out they pulled it out with a 10-6 win on a Nolan Arenado walk-off grand slam in the 10th!

Devin Williams is not the lights out closer everybody thinks he is. He gets into a lot of trouble, but usually gets out of it with strikeouts, which makes him look good. However, that's not always going to happen.

I'm really hoping that a 10 game lead over the Cards with 35 to go is enough.

Yeah, they did that. This was supposed to be a breakthrough year. They broke through all right. To more strikeouts than anybody on the planet could possibly count. I don't think it is Servais' fault, but who knows. They fired the hitting coach earlier. That didn't help. I don't have an inkling why the Mariners just cannot hit this season.

I just opened the Denver Post and saw that Servais learned he had been fired from a news banner on a TV show. To me, that's a sign of low-class management. There is NO excuse for letting that news out of the office before the person being let go has been notified personally.

Pete Crow-Armstrong had one of the fastest inside-the-park homers ever yesterday!

So fast! 120 yards minimum, point to point, but obviously longer to follow a manageable path with 3 turns included . . . in 14.08 seconds. That's flying. He's stolen 23 bases this year and been "caught stealing" once which was really a technicality from a missed bunt that left him hung out to dry but with no contact was classed as an SB attempt. His bat's come alive this last month (monster HR today in Miami) and he's showing the 5 tool kind of stuff he did back in AA. Definitely fun to watch and he's only 22!

The Jays swept The Angels in a four-gamer over the weekend in Toronto. Second time this month that The Jays have swept LAA! Schedule makers: Please find a way to get Toronto playing LAA more often! 🤣

The White Sox tallied their 100th loss yesterday. And they’ve still got 31 games left on the schedule! Not quite the fastest team ever to reach 100 losses, but they were close.

Check out their month by month record:

3-22 in July 😂 And only 4 wins so far in August with a week left ‘til September.

Yeah, pretty dismal . . . and Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf wants over 1 BILLION dollars in public funding to help build ANOTHER private stadium while there are still outstanding bonds on the CURRENT stadium he strong-armed the state/county/city to fund. Jerry doesn't care.

One of the reasons I love baseball. The season is long enough for your team to Alternatively give you hope and break your heart...
And now the Mariners are giving me hope again. No doubt it's a setup. As a well trained Mariners fan, I'm sure it's a setup. But I'm still convinced this is their year. I plead insanity.

They could have stolen even more bases but that would have been piling on at that stage and there'd already been enough accidental plonking, no need to risk plonks in anger. Watching Rowdy Tellez mouth "My bad" after accidentally plonking Wisdom with a screaming ~45mph pitch was *almost* as funny as HP umpire Scott Barry calling Tellez's first pitch a strike. What was odd was how later Barry started to actually *squeeze* Tellez when he should have been calling anything in the same zip code a strike so everybody could get the heck out of there and get some dinner! How quickly we've gotten accustomed to the rules changes such that now a 3 hour 13 minute (9 inning) game is an aberration rather than the rule!

I was on a con-call going wayyyy too long but had the game on - and an earpiece - so stepped away from my desk and watched that glorious ending. Amazing. I think that's only the 4th MLB game (out of almost 400) this year where a team lost after having a 7 run or better lead. Can't really blame the Bucs for walking a 4 for 4 PCA with 2 on and 1st base open but Bethancourt had already had a day, too . . . and boy, did he deliver! In his post-game interview Bethancourt said in the on-deck circle he heard somebody yell "You stink!" (probably cleaned it up) and that just inspired him even more, LOL. When he got to 1st he pointed to the fan in the stands like "this one's for you!". 7 RBI day, not too shabby.

The Pirates are sprinting as fast as they can towards the lowest level of respectability they can achieve. They have just decided that their starting shortstop, one that they've groomed for this job for years, is now going to be an outfielder. I guess the reason is he can't make throws to first bass. Well how is he going to hit his cut off targets if he can't hit a first baseman that isn't a moving target? Brilliant!

However all is not lost They have a very good pitching staff, but only one player that can hit at the major league level.....Correction, any level of baseball. Well the good news? There is way the owner (Tim Skinflint) is going to pay the market value for a class A pitching talent like Paul Skenes, which currently is sitting at about a half a billion dollars. Hell, he's choking over $65mil for a whole team. I'm thinking Skenes is going to look really good in Dodger blue in a few years.

So in case, any GMs out there are interested? Call Ben Charington @ 1-(800) We-Give Up for details. Operators standing by.

Enjoy the pennant race fans. I guess the Pirates feel they are so good they don't need to prove themselves by playing those extra games.
